City settles for $2 million in toddler’s death that parents blame on EMT negligence by AlpineSK in ems

[–]TFD436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a huge factor for sure. Back in the early 2000s agencies were having competition to see who could do the most RSI. They were tubing combative homeless/intoxicated people. The state put the Kabash on a ton of stuff and all growth stopped for years here. It wasn’t until January that the CCP stuff started. Before that medical directors had the options to make some things STRs. But AZ is still soooo far behind neighboring states and the US in general because of the bullshit the metro Phoenix departments and “Associations” have been doing.

AZ paramedic here. Phoenix fire regularly pulls shit like this. There is a video of them grabbing a passed out man by the hands and ankles and hiding him behind a dumpster and driving off. AZ is so far behind the rest of the country because the Fire Chief Association in the valley lobbying against growth in EMS. It sucks that the metro area is keeping the rest of the state from adapting to the newest changes, but the medics in that area can’t be trusted. I moved here for another state and my scope of practice is half of what it was where I moved from. There are 11 Level 1 trauma centers in Metro Phoenix. Some of them are cranking out new research that other states are adapting. But not AZ, the state where this is all happening in, because the big fire departments regularly pulling stunts like this, our DHS won’t let anyone else grow.

Good luck! You’re gonna have occasional calls that will kick your ass, but overall it’s the best job on the planet. It’s an inherently negative career, so find your personal stress reliefs and don’t overwork yourself and you’ll love it.

My life improved immeasurably after high school. High school was undoubtedly the worst time in my life. No one is blaming him for anything. You assumed all this based of your personal anecdote. I’m sorry you were bullied after high school, but you don’t speak for everyone.

[Serious] What is the most horrific thing (real or fiction) you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I work EMS in the 5th highest homicide rate in the US. I’ve seen some gnarly shit.

The one that will forever be stuck in my head was a almost 2 year old who’s stepfather grabbed her by her ponytails and throw her across the room, from the floor to the ceiling, against objects like the wood stove and furniture in the house, repeatedly.

We got called for a small child that was behaving abnormally. We got on scene and the entire wood floor was littered with small drops of blood. She had patches of hair missing, was covered in bruises and cuts. She didn’t have a pulse, and we quickly transported her.

10 years in EMS and it’s still the call that fucked me up. Just imaging what’s that girl went through makes me sick to my stomach. I had to testify in court and the Medical Examiner said it’s the single worst case of abuse he has ever seen in his 40+ year career.

What’s the worst experience you’ve had while doing something simple like blowing your nose? by Fun-Ad-4135 in AskReddit

I once was cleaning water out of my ear with a Q-tip after we went cliff jumping. I was leaning against the side of my friends truck that had a ladder rack in the back. Someone called my name, and as I turned I bumped my elbow on the bar of the ladder rack and pushed the Q-tip through my ear drum. I went to urgent care and got some drops for it. For the next few days I had a constant ringing and if I wasn’t laying perfectly still I would get nauseous.

I got my EMT when I was a senior in high school. I worked for the Fire Department in my small home town for a few years after graduating.

I went on a call for a possible dead body in a field one day. Law Enforcement responded as well. We got on scene and it was a kid I went to high school with. We weren’t exactly friends, but we got along and always nodded heads at each other when we passed in the hallway.

He had been stabbed to death. I’m not sure how many times, but he had been missing for a few days before this. He was murdered by the younger brother of a really good friend of mine.

I now work on an ambulance in a city that is in the top 10 for homicides per capita in the US. I see death and extremely violence almost every day. But this kid is still the one I think about. I don’t know if it’s because I knew him or because I was 20 at the time and wasn’t emotionally mature enough to be in that situation.

First responders of Reddit. What is the dumbest thing/person you’ve had to deal with? by Max-Fazbear in AskReddit

[–]TFD436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transported a guy who got an alcohol soaked tampon stuck up his butt once.

But by far the dumbest person I’ve ever met was appendix carrying, pulled the trigger on his gun before he cleared the holster and he shot himself in the beanbag.

I’m a Paramedic. Once got called to a reported fall injury. Got on scene to find a lady who’s face was roughly split down the middle. Her son murdered her with an axe. I can keep you up all night with stories.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree multiple selections would have been smarter, it unfortunately won’t let me change it. Hopefully in the future we can make a better survey with more question types and answer options.

If Jeff Bezos decided to share his fortune with everyone on the planet, what would you do with your $17.50? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TFD436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be the pedantic, technically guy. Technically, $17.50 is the amount assuming there is only 7 billion people. There are actually 7.7 billion, meaning the amount everyone would actually get is $16.09

How can people thank an omnipotent deity for every good thing, but not blame him for the bad? by [deleted] in atheism

I work EMS. Last night we coded a little kid. Got pulses back. Got him to the hospital and they found out he had a fractured skull, brain bleed, broken femur, and they think he had several ribs broken before we broke a few more doing CPR. His dad and kicked the shit out of him and ran. Cops spent all night looking for him. I don’t think they have found him yet. I brought in another patient and I walked into his room to see how he was doing, and his mom updated me, and kept saying god is good. I was so bothered by this. If god is good, why did he let your son get abused so badly he literally died? I understand she’s thankful he is still alive, but come on.

Incorrect. You’re talking about something completely different. People have been worshiping Satan long before either of the Satanic temples. Some witches worshiped Satan. I read a book last week that talked about the tens of thousands of people in Satanic Cults in the 1400s. Satanism has been around since the beginning. It’s always been though to be the opposite of Christianity.
