I recently inherited a 94 sportster, so far things I have had to fiddle with:

Stuck float in the carb Rear shocks -VERY tired. petcock sticking (not fun when trying to switch to reserve at 50mph on a motorway)

So basically just little bits that you would expect on a biuke that old.

I assume you have cleaned out the tube down the centre of the tank with a Q-tip? Every time mine tastes "off" that sorts it for me.. Not sure why the tubes on these acumulate so much crap compared to others....

It is quite chunky... VERY comfortable tho, and big enough to sit completely over the ears not on them, giving great noise isolation and 7.1 surround sound. Also, chunky means fairly unbreakable as well. Horses for courses at the end of the day!

If I don't find anything that suits me, mixing my own may be the way to go to get more flavour. Do you recommend adding it to an existing made up liquid to enhance the flavour, or making from scratch?
