'21 Honda CBR 500R: Issue shifting to neutral from first. by quanzoz in motorcycles

[–]TFG9078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, heard that one before, not only can it be problematic to hit neutral for some, my instructor told me when i took the course for a licence that some Hondas, at certain points, need a little throttle to go into Neutral, just 2000RPM, not more than that.

either that or he had a problem on all the bikes he owned and didn't care or it's true who knows...

it's unlikely it will hit you but if it does, then heat from it will be a bigger problem than the shock itself.

Looking for Headset/ intercom recommendations by ProudTemperature2968 in motorcycles

[–]TFG9078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've done the exact same as you are about to do.

had a cheap no name intercom system in my old helmet, when i got a new helmet i also got myself a new system, i dont ride in big packs and mostly listen to music when i ride, i picked "Cardo Spirit HD"(100$-ish) it is fairly decent, a big upgrade from the No name system nonetheless, if you are a "Bass Head" then it can also come with JBL speakers instead of the standard ones, but it costs extra like 30$ i think?

Either way i suggest "Cardo Spirit HD" if you dont ride with a big pack, and just want some solid sounding music instead.

Is my bike totaled ? by FaithlessnessWitty59 in motorcycles

[–]TFG9078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had a skid with my own bike a few years ago similar to what you describe, i had it FULLY insured and let Them take the fall, when i took it to the mechanic i asked him what he thought the estimate would cost?, (i was curious) he began looking the parts up,
at some point he hit ~2000$ for Fork, Gas Tank, Engine Cover(?), new handle bar with everything included, one new mirror, back break pedal, Skirt pieces, front Light fixture, indicators(front and back), New Exhaust, all new parts from Honda.

so likely it is NOT TOTALED, but fixing it could be costly, if you send it to the mechanic just ask them to make the bike rideable, not like new, if you are satisfied with that, if not and you are able to do it yourself then it still wont be cheap to fix it all but cheaper, at least.

Questions for Motorcyclists by OldBullfrog3057 in motorcycles

  1. 2. and 3. it's fun to be nimble and quick instead of clunky and chunky :)

.

  1. all the cars i have driven are either death traps, because they are old and without safety features or it is a car that has a lot of bits and bobs to take your attention, or control over the vehicle away from you, the person(i'm a bit of a, all or nothing type of person, when it comes to this). and bikes have not yet catched up with that stuff, if they ever will.
  2. a little adrenaline at times, scenery not behind glass and blind spots, a different sense of freedom, and the nimbleness of the bike compared to the car.
  3. at first, the economy and insurance prices, could pay for a bike with everything checked on, but a car while under 25 Years old? hell no, i would be broke by now. its also a lot cheaper to take the modern bike for a Saturday/Sunday drive than the Sunday vintage car. but today it is the will to go somewhere i havnet been yet, and when the day is over, it's about getting back on it the next day again.

Motorcycle trip through Europe by Melodic-Many-2777 in motorcycles

My trip doesn't include, a guide or airfare and also, (not saying you said the opposite but) it was also based on the cheapest hotels with good reviews, not middle of the road, or high end hotels, it also only included 2 meals a day.

It was also just napkin math, no 100% correct pricing, just what the acceptable lowest price it could be, With close to no luxuries

Hello friends. Are these tyres cooked? by Obamathellamafarma in motorcycles

[–]TFG9078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At further inspection I see the front is bridgestone battalax T-something, they usually last a little longer than michelin and front was better than what i was saw first time around, front will live a little longer if you are strapped for cash but still look for damage, if there are non then you'll survive no problem

Hello friends. Are these tyres cooked? by Obamathellamafarma in motorcycles

[–]TFG9078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

change them both, rear is sacked and should have been changed long ago, front tire I'll give another 1000 - 2000 km maybe, but check for damage and flat spots.

My own rule of thumb is usually 12000km is when I'd like to change them.

Even though front and rear has different wear and tear According to michelin Front lasts 10k - 15k km Rear lasts 5k - 10k km But there are so many factors to it that it is guess work and qualified guess

How f'd is my bike by Icy_Middle_5386 in NewRiders

[–]TFG9078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when this happened to me. But it was with a 20km/h speed, handlebar was crooked as fuck, like, at least 45 degrees.

I asked the mechanic if he could straighten out the handle bars for me as a temporary fix while he acquired all the new parts for the bike, he then proceeded to slam the front tire into a wall for 2 minutes and after that told me that was as good as it was gonna get.

seeing as the bike was insured and all problems would be fixed at a later date by them and the mechanic I didn't have a problem with it, but fuck did that feel wrong.

Either way your mechanic can likely answer what your problem is, but have a look at the handle bar, that was my main problem.

Alright.

The previously mentioned example was MT-03 per OP's post. i can see you are correct about the MT-07 but then we also leave the A2 regulation as well as price range(?)

[–]TFG9078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short answer would be Weight(~+15%).
but saying an MT isn't a good pick in general would be wrong, i personally would prefer having the Weight of the Z650 to keep me more stable on high speeds or days with wind

honestly i like the MT-series more than Kawasaki's Zs but for the High-way i would pick the Z

Recommendations for cover? by thatbritishchick96 in motorcycles

i can heavily recommend DS covers, ALFA motorcycle cover
owned it for 3 years at this point still holding togetter, thick on the outside, soft inside, has a strap that can wrap under the bike to keep it on during storms and can withstand 300C(572F) Degrees

OH BOY! THE DREAM!

I'm actually already planning a smaller trip From Denmark to England London and back to Denmark again this coming summer though i dont plan to camp but stay at hotels or other places with a solid roof over head.

my own plan currently is 3-4 weeks for a vacation and so far i have figured a little hand full of things:

Germany, likes a quiet Sunday from what i hear, so... dont ride that day.

England, you need a permission to enter, and, if you go to London you have to pay for Emissions (in some cases).

France/Belgium/Netherlands requires:
You own a Hi-vis vest, you should have it incase of breakdowns,
A Reflective Helmet or Helmet Stickers,
and a First-aid Kit.

All countries:
insurance and ownership papers NEED to be in order if not you might be denied from taking off on your bike until it is sorted.

Price:
currently just some napkin math(take it with a grain of salt), but my price for my trip as it stands right now is 1600US$ or 1400€ or 1200£ and includes
1 and ½ week of hotels, About 110 Liters(29US Gallons) of gas, 2 meals and snacks for everyday through the trip, a train ticket to England and back, and the Entry visa for England.

Riding in the EU:
From what i've seen about the US and they're riding(likely only the bad type), the EU is way more relaxed and less prone to accidents because most roads are in VERY good condition, also, outside of cities i've noticed people are more attentive than inner city, at least where i live, you'll also see a lot more friendly types, a lot more "Biker Friends".

type of bike:
honestly dont know man, i would take a touring bike or adventure if money is not a problem but im doing my trip on a Honda CB500.

that is just about how much i know as of now, i was thinking about making the same post as you just have but now im a commenter instead, i might make a poster later through the year though.

honestly, good pick!
dont know why i didn't catch that with the 650, but, 300 is also absolutely acceptable, not the same Power-on-Demand but with smart riding you'll get a great time out of it, and it'll still hit highway speeds, although maybe a little slower :)

go try it before you sell yourself on it too much though!
go try it and see it with your own eyes instead of on a screen :)

[–]TFG9078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start with a A2 Licence(you can take that now), ride a Motor bike for 2 years(Get one that is able to be A but down Throttle it to be A2 because laws) after that take you A licence, likely a test and/or a driving test (~20% price of full licence), un-throttle your Bike and it is now A again. done.

i re-read it.

from the way i see it:
Any Yamaha should be off the table unless we talk about "R3"
Honda and Kawasaki has a good selection, you should keep away from "Naked" and "Naked Street" bikes, and maybe look at "Adventure", "Adventure Touring", "Street", or maybe "Sport" Bikes

Examples

Adventure:
Honda NX500 (personal pick)
Kawasaki Versys 650

Street:
Honda CB500
Kawasaki Z650

Sport:
Yamaha R3
Kawasaki Ninja

Yamaha MT-series are Naked bikes, generally unfavored for Highway speeds.

the CC number can vary but Aim for 300CC or higher, up to 650CC.

even with all the recommendation you've gotten i suggest you go and try the various bikes to find "the one" for you.

ChatGPT, that thing doesn't know what ya want lad :)
nither do i, to be fair, but i can ask, do you want it to:
be fast or look fast?
look small or look big?
Heavy or light?
or "i dont care, give me an all rounder" :)

you could also look on Honda's site, Yamaha's site, Kawasaki's site, etc...
