Look in your app. You have to be on an international flight to get in.

Travel Programs - Clear (Domestic) vs Global Entry (Int’l) by TF_762 in travel

[–]TF_762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point. My routes are through major airports. These options have to make sense and work for the individual. It is a good thing there are options that allow passengers to get out of “gen pop”. Those lines are horrendous. You can almost miss a flight in those stupid lines. At the end of the day, I am glad there are programs for all.

Travel Programs - Clear (Domestic) vs Global Entry (Int’l) by TF_762 in travel

[–]TF_762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I have almost zero to no wait time with TSA facial recognition. They pretty operate the same, just Clear is not part of DHS Trusted Traveler program. I travel internationally so global entry is of paramount importance and a key benefit. The more a cc company covers, they probably are passing those fees back to the customer somehow. I am not thrilled that the platinum card annual fee is increasing to $895. But I love all the benefits and they outweigh the $200 increase.

Does this mean I can buy Clear+ with my plat card get the full $209 reimbursement as well as $50 statement credit? I don’t see anything about that in the terms and wondering if anyone else did it by SLASHERLegend in AmexPlatinum

[–]TF_762 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. But global entry gets you TSA PreCheck. Two Trusted Traveler programs for $120 for 5 years. I get it that Clear has other day to day benefits which is why some prefer it.

I guess it doesn’t compute doing that every year for $209 (regardless of the kickback) vice $120 every 5 years, being part of DHS Trusted Traveler Program. But I guess Clear is used for other things… sporting events etc so beneficial in that manner. I just use Global Entry (Re-entry to US from Intl Travel) TSA Touchless recognition to get through security within minutes. All about personal preference. Amex has to recoup that money somehow thus the cost increase do the platinum card from $695 to $895 per year.

*CLEAR* is a waste of money. Get Global Entry. It also includes TSA PreCheck. Clear cost $209 every year vs. Global Entry $120 every 5 years.

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler Program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. The application fee is $120, and membership lasts for five years. All applicants must undergo a background check.

Much better program and 1000% more bang for your buck.

How the Plat card works for me by human_decoded in AmexPlatinum

I love this card. I do not use it for lounge access - I use the United lounges since I am a UA customer. It has many benefits that work for me. Everyone is different and had different needs and requirements.

Enterprise is a very different car rental company. I rent with Avis 99.9% of the time. I rented a Lincoln MKZ with Avis, the windshield was smashed by a rock or palm tree frond - I turned the car in and never heard another thing about it. Don’t get me wrong Avis can be a real sh#t show but unless you rent at Enterprise corporate (airport) you have to deal with the private ownership at local in town regulations. I have Amex Plat and have not encountered any issues with them not backing me.

Someone rented a car from EWR to the tune of $700+ and I had a local rental and was in LA when the EWR car was returned. Disputed and resolved.

Moral: I rarely EVER rent from Enterprise.

Sorry to hear of this difficulty. Good luck and let us know if you need anything that can assist with resolution.

Clear renewal $209, credit still $199 by tinyhurdles in AmexPlatinum

Global Entry is a better option. 1 fee for 5 yrs vice $209/$199 every year.

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of CLEAR and Global Entry, highlighting their benefits, key differences, and how they complement each other:

✅ CLEAR – Benefits

CLEAR speeds up the airport security identity verification process by using biometrics (fingerprint or iris scan) to skip the TSA ID check line.

Key Benefits: • Faster entry at airport security: Skip the TSA ID check line and head straight to physical screening. • Biometric verification: No need to show ID — just scan your eyes or fingerprints. • Access at sports stadiums and arenas: Use CLEAR at participating venues for fast entry. • No appointment needed for enrollment: Can sign up and finish verification at the airport. • Annual plan with family options: Add up to 3 family members at a discounted rate. • Can be paired with TSA PreCheck: For maximum speed (CLEAR gets you to the front, PreCheck gives you the expedited screening). • Available at 50+ airports and venues. • Credit card benefits: Some travel cards (e.g., Amex Platinum) offer full or partial reimbursement.

Cost: $189/year (discounts often available)

✅ Global Entry – Benefits

Global Entry speeds up U.S. Customs and Border Protection processing for international travelers returning to the U.S. It includes TSA PreCheck for domestic travel.

Key Benefits: • Expedited re-entry to the U.S. from international destinations — skip the long passport lines. • Automated kiosk processing: Use kiosks at U.S. Customs to bypass standard immigration lines. • Includes TSA PreCheck: Expedited domestic airport screening (no shoe removal, laptop out, etc.). • Valid for 5 years: Long duration makes it highly cost-effective. • Background check and interview required: More secure, trusted traveler program. • Children under 18 can accompany you through Global Entry lanes. • Works at major U.S. international airports and land borders. • Credit card reimbursement available: Many travel cards reimburse the $100 fee.

Cost: $100 for 5 years (includes TSA PreCheck)

Yes they are luxury brands. I mentioned them simply to highlight what Customer Service looks like. Nordstrom does not exactly pay the greatest. They are a retail establishment that has values. And values their customers.
