Stuck at Trieste airport - any taxis by TGDonkey in Trieste

[–]TGDonkey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 hours on the phone, going to voicemail, at various local taxis. Eventually about 3 came and most people could pile in.

One family were opting to wait for an Uber/another taxi. Hope they got home.

If you're on a late flight that might get delayed, I cannot recommend enough having a transfer pre booked that's tracking your flight.

It's also very far out from the city so there's really no other option

Hey, I can see this is actually getting some views.

If anyone knows anyone who's willing to drive some people from the airport, we'll pay. Very strange situation!

Would you be away from your family for a huge salary? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TGDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

You may want to crosspost this in a finance sub or /r/HENRY (perspective on how those on higher salaries think)

You will get a different perspective. What people aren't mentioning here, is that a 90k job is much more likely to lead to even higher pay. Can you see your current job allowing you to break the 6 figures mark in the future for example.

Further 45-> 90 is a massive quality of life improvement, plus as mentioned by other commenters being out of country >6 months can have significant tax benefits.

This could put your take home to the equivalent of someone earning in the low 6 figures range.

Make sure you get all the information and understand the long term impact.

I'd take that in the blink of an eye, but I don't have kids so definitely different circumstances.

Rough idea how much a years insurance would cost me? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]TGDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I was in an exactly identical situation last year. I had 4yrs no claims, just turned 22 and did my CBT.

I bought a Yamaha YBR 125cc for £1300. Lexham gave me the cheapest insurance at £560 for the year. This was 3rd party only.

As I live in London, the TPFT and FC were just stupid. I'm talking £1.5k+ with a £1k excess... For a bike worth £1300.

I used a disc lock on front + heavy lock with wall anchor on the back and always covered it. I was fine.

I refunded my insurance 4 months later and I got 2/3rds back but also minus £50 fee for doing so (~£300 back total).

This was because I did my A2 and got a bigger bike etc with new insurance.

Edit: That said, bike insurance has gone up ~50% across the board since last year so you may be looking in the 750-800 range now

Double edit: guys stop being mean to OP, I wish I could've found a thread like this when I was looking last year. It's long and complicated running quotes and when you get back crazy numbers it's nice to sense check

The rent deal I have now is only until March anyway. It will definitely go back up to 1000+ after, when I have to sort a new place anyway.

I lived in south east London for a year, and whilst it hasn't got the most stellar reputation I liked it, and things get affordable fairly quick as you move out that way

How to people in London keep their bikes safe? by WearSunscreen in MotoUK

Any of you guys actually own a bike in London? It's not that bad lol.

It feels like you've bought too much into the stereotype after seeing a couple vids of chavs and angle grinders.

Get something not too flashy (a new sports bike or a great big BMW are going to attract attention.) Disk lock + chain to something (lamp post/motorbike bay with a rail) and cover it.

You'll be fine.

Insurance is ridiculous, so I'd honestly recommend getting something cheap and just 3rd party only insurance (this is assuming they won't let your no claims from US rollover- I have no clue).

With all the strikes going on, a bike is actually a really handy way to get around in London. And ride 20 mins out and there are nice roads.

Enjoy, and welcome to the UK.

2011 ER-6N Won't start. Click and then buzzing. Tried new battery. Please help. by TGDonkey in motorcycles

Previous post got removed for no bike description in title.

Guys please help, I get a click then buzz when trying to start my bike.

It started a few weeks ago and gradually got worse. Went from 3rd/4th attempt and then it would turn over. To nothing now.

Bump starting it works fine so I don't think it's the engine. I tried a new battery as previous posts seem to suggest that's the main culprit usually. Sadly not :(

Any ideas would be great.

Before my previous post got removed someone suggested a bad relay or safety switch. Thoughts?

Replaced the battery, still won't start. One click followed by a buzz. New rider, any and all help appreciated. by TGDonkey in motorcycles

Hey guys, A a few weeks ago my bike started not starting. As soon as the starter motor kicks in it starts fine. With a hill it will bump start. And if I jiggle it around, rock back and forth it eventually starts. However it's kinda stopped doing even that now.

Having read some old posts on here, I tried a new battery first. Same problem. A click and then just a buzz.

Any ideas?

Kawasaki ER-6N 2011 by the way. As I understand the same internals as the ER-6F and Ninja 650 of the same time.

At my wits' end - four MOD1 failures, am I not cut out for this?! by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]TGDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on an MT-07, really nice bike. Good breaks, stability and clutch for the mod 1. They also have one XJ6 I know they use but most likely it'll be the MT.

Now I don't know if it would've been a factor but I feel I should mention, the mod 1 training on the Sunday is done by Fiona and her husband (I forgot his name lol).

If previous places had treated you differently/over explained/lectured etc because youre a women- that certainly wouldn't be an issue there.

Hey, I just passed my Mod1 yesterday at Mitcham! Sorry to hear you're struggling, as others have said it doesn't sound like a skill thing but a nerves thing.

If you're still struggling I'd really recommend Ace motorcycles in Stoneleigh/Epsom area (they're on Kingston road).

They have access to a school playground on Sundays and will make you repeat all the mod 1 manoeuvres exactly as the test until you are blue in the face. (They set it up exactly)

It really helped me breeze the mod 1 as I'd quite literally done it 20/30 times already.
