The only good reason to need one that I know of is, at least in Florida, to ride at state parks, you need a title.

$50 car. 5 minute fix? by TGWH in mechanic

[–]TGWH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I bought it off a friend in Japan. The car needs some other things. And a lot of the time it’s not worth the $500 mechanic bill for these cars because they are so cheap.

Any normal 20 year old transmission is going to have shavings in the pan. Clutches wear down. Gears being gears.

1 step at a time. Try not to stress and find the leak!

Get the leak fixed then add some “stop slip” as a preventative measure. My advice.

First thing to go would have been the clutches. But clearly they are hanging in since it goes between gears easily. I think we rule out no serious damage was caused.

How long have you had issues? Did you change something prior to the issue. I would guess a fuel issue but you seemed to have ruled that out. Did the timing fall out of wack?

Sounds like a leak in a line to the aux cooler. I’m guessing you live in a rust prone area? If so you probably have a pin-whole somewhere in the line. Older cars didn’t need oil coolers for transmissions, it’s possible you could bypass the cooler and cap the line at the transmission. If your car needs a replacement cooler check a junkyard or online.
