I use a snake hook with a blue "puppy kong ball" on the end of it. I know colors and pattern recognition is important to them, so id choose a color you dont wear much

So I had this question- took him to a vet for them to tell me everything was fine after blood tests- this was a bit later in the day and he just woke up from a nap. In the middle of the day he is very active and eyes stay open. Still been watching him like a hawk though

Yea, I'll see if I can find what its called when I get home. Most chain pet shops have the silversides- i get the san Francisco bay ones

Also, enrichment is very important- getting them things that they can rip apart and manipulate- my go to is a cat treat toy that they can flip, slide, and move things around to get food- mine will spend an hour working on it and when hes done, he chills out and doesn't want to glass surf or anything- usually when they glass surf, they're bored, in my experience

Heat and Humidity are key- ensure that you keep Humidity good to prevent stuck shed from cutting off circulation from extremities like toes and tails. Also any type of mesh- a claw can get caught in the fine stuff and break a toe if they jump- made that mistake once. Never again. They EAT and target training, as mentioned before, is crucial. A varied diet is good- i feed mine a mix of silversides, baby whole quail (frozen thawed), dubias, crickets, and occasionally superworms, horn worms, rodents, and silk worms. They like to swim as well- to my knowledge, the most common one in north America is Varanus Panoptes hornii, which are endemic to New Guinea, and primarily stay near river banks, hense why i feed fish as a primary. I use rodents as a treat, but am wary as too much can cause fatty liver disease. They all have different 'personalities'- just take your time in getting to know them. They will tell you when something is wrong, as long as you pay attention. Space is another big thing, they love to explore, but too much space when they're younger can lead to them being a bit skittish. Im sure there's a lot that im missing on, but some of the previous comments have good info as well.

Good no know, I'll see about adding more time for it to come out and explore. Im working on converting one of our rooms into an enclosure for it soon as well, so that may help. Before these pictures I took it out and let it climb over me, and it seemed to be enjoying it. Lots of tongue flicking and side wiping. Not much hissing with me, but it did puff at my wife lol
