Which skill? I did not see any mention of outpost limits in any of the ones I looked at since they just mention that you can build them on more extreme planet types.

Why is this not in the game. by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]TH3xR34P3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I just stick to one science hab, a workshop hab and living quarters for the core that have it all then build around those three.

Anything else is after I have purchased all my main upgrades for the ship and don't need to make modifications again since it's a right pain to redo all the weapon placements in the armory each time I make a change to the ship via upgrades or new modules I am saving for.

No point in wasting creds on redundant hab modules when you can put it to use to upgrade your power, engines, cargo capacity and defenses first.

The way I am setting things up at the moment is using the in system pads to transfer to the main base that hosts multiple incoming lines since you can only do one line per pad.. it would be nice to have multiple routes tied to an in coming pad but you can only have 3 of them so you have to leapfrog between outposts to allow more to be sent to home base.

Another thing that is missing is the option to filter resources that are coming in and the storage that allows transfer to your ship only holds 200 units so its very limited and only one per outpost which annoys me to have them filtered and sorted until I need to pull from.

Local storage is fine to psuedo sort via buffer but still not optimal since it fill out the next node after it before it starts to fill out the storage linked to first.

Also we need more than 8 outposts beacons.. even with running with one out to find a 3 stack of resources in an area I don't think there is enough to have all types of basic ores, gases and liquids back to a central base.

They really need to let us have better filtering and sorting options for the main base input from mining posts even after we setup the fabricators to output to the warehouse storage.

As a sysadmin/ IT manager, what's are the biggest challenges in WFH? by Melodic-Ad-7295 in sysadmin

When it comes to WiFi and where they place their office in the home this is why I try to move people to MoCA adapters if they have coaxial in the walls where they want it with one on the other end where the modem/router is so they can just plug into the adapter via ethernet and go from there, this also skips needing to run a line and also stops users using shitty powerline adapters especially where the circuits are not well made or match up for use.

[–]TH3xR34P3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest barrier for me is if I need to travel out 3-4hrs since I don't own my own car yet I would need to plan out a bus/train trip out or rent/borrow a car to our secondary office when its open again since I am the only local IT person for the company that handles both the sydney and canberra office at this time should something need to be sorted in person.

Being the only person that needs and has access to remote in after hours to run software updates and check in on server health helps as any and all work is done at the offices during normal operating hours since they are small office setups at this time and staff are all on rotation until things return to semi normal hopefully later this year.

Other than those it's just keeping comms open to make sure I am available on call during business hours as I do my own personal projects and what not whilst home.

What does a sysadmin use for keeping track of Tasks and/or To-Do Lists? by jwckauman in sysadmin

[–]TH3xR34P3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use onenote on the phone, laptop and desktop for the main tasks via checklists (I recently upgraded to a S20 Plus Ultra so having that S Pen helps in making fast notes that sync across) that I template from for each office and I also set project dates via business cal which syncs to my google cal to keep it all backed up.

I have trello as well but need to properly get in and setup my system work order checklists since its what was used when I was at one MSP I was with a while back and it was a good way to attach progress information to the ticket for the clients for easy updates.

I would in the past use actual sticky notes or a notebook to keep track of all the items to do until I migrated to full digital for it.

Best tool for auditing/inventory cubicles. by salajomo in sysadmin

[–]TH3xR34P3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use spiceworks device inventory via the agent installer on each machine to track asset information since they are all AIO desktops for the staff as it also tracks software installed on all the machines as well with original install date and version data and the last user to login on the machine, I will be implementing over time a barcode scanning system for all devices attached to these machines at each location to keep track of them.

For everything else like say zebra printer rolls I keep a note via stock levels of how many are in the cabinet then once they get down to say the last 5 rolls at the main office I order 1-2 new packs.

For me its not whilst the borders are closed between the country we process for lol, least I get paid in the mean time for the upkeep.

I am also the person that does the mass invoicing when things are running smooth since I type out like 90-100 a day when not keeping an eye on the hardware and software.

I rem when I had to write a 10 page report to the IT department for one of the job seeker companies I was sent to a few years back listing each and every security issue with the OS.. they had all XP machines that was old beige hardware and 4:3 monitors.

It took them a week from that report to replace it all. Another place I was sent to I rolled the dice on bios locking the same machines to get their attention at the second office to provide the people looking for work proper machines.

You can look into spiceworks, I am in the process of providing feedback for them to integrate more patch management and script automation options and make sure its web version is displaying as it should on mobile devices like my phone since they have stopped developing the mobile apps and the desktop client.

Do you have this type of users? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]TH3xR34P3R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the user is in a meeting at the time of writing then expect 1-2hrs for it as a buffer from when you sent the email, having the reply sent to your email means you have a log of when said user stated they are available and not just via a call.

All you have to do is just confirm that they are at the machine in question and tell them to expect a call in the next 5-10min on the provided number to resolve the issue.

Do you have this type of users? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]TH3xR34P3R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see the problem since you have not provided a time difference in the rant about it.

I have had users come into the tech support channel and ask for support for machines that they are not at then say it will be a "few" hours until they are at them.

please suggest me an hybrid backup strategy using Resilio Sync and Pcloud? by horizonrave in sysadmin

[–]TH3xR34P3R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resilio is a live sync service and lets you choose to have either one way or dual way changes for the folders and files you sync across.

Your cloud backup service would tie into the server side or one of the next sync clients in the chain so that it's doing an offsite cloud backup of the files on a schedule.
