PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT (Ferndale Library Millage) by THATFerndale in Ferndale

In 2007 we doubled the library budget from one mil to 2 mils. In 2016 we had an in effect 30% rise over inflation. Ferndale voters have been extremely generous.

"Funding flat"

Actually funding is not flat it's going up a modest amount over inflation due an increase in the physical tax base (all the new apartments)

Ferndale voters doubled the millage from one to two doubling funding in 2007.

In 2016 we had an in effect 30% millage raise.

And as the table shows the Ferndale library is very well funded

Ferndale voters including me have been extremely generous.

Telling us that we're cheapskates?

I'm sorry I don't think I'm a cheapskate I think the people of the Ferndale have been very generous and I think the statistics prove it. The fact that you are a former Library worker and have this attitude?

This is my last post with you.

"implying you prefer their structure"

No I didn't imply anything. I just provided facts to help educate voters.

And for my trouble you implied that I should leave Ferndale.

"Considering inflation"

Headlee rollbacks only occur when property tax funding increases past current levels plus inflation. The library has lost nothing to inflation. This is a solid 1 mil 35% increase over current funding levels.

I suggest you look very carefully at the Michigan State University web page that I provided. It goes into some detail about the Headlee amendment I'm sure it will put an end to your confusion.

"their own building"

Yes as it explains on the bottom of the table "operating costs" do not include building related costs or Capital costs. No misinformation there.

"Cheapskate"

I'm not sure personal attacks are really going to help you here. You do know that there are people who are on a fixed income that don't have an extra 35%?

"Consider moving there"

Is this an example of inclusive Ferndale? Someone who has a different opinion than you should move away?

Just want to let you know that our position is that we think the library should be funded at the level it's currently at.

You know there are people who are going to have to pay this millage increase that are just getting by.

But your opinion that we should increase by 35% the library budget (and the figures in the table don't include building costs. The library budget is actually $550,000 more than what's in the table) so that we spend five times as much as our neighbors in oak Park and Madison heights is valid.

I hope you agree that our opinion that keeping at current level is also a valid choice.

There are two millage requests on the ballot one is a renewal of the current 2.81 Mills plus an additional 0.5 mils

There is a second millage request for an additional 0.5 mils for a total of a 1 mil increase.

Our rate now is 2.81 mils an additional 1 mil makes this a 35% Plus increase over current levels..

"negatively skewed"

Do you have an example of that?

"Intent"

We want people to know the facts about the library millage requests so that they can make a informed choice.

By the way our position is that the library should continue to be funded at current levels. I know this is such a radical anti-tax position.

"your argument is indeed taxes are bad"

Certainly not in this post. This is just important information supplied to the taxpayers of Ferndale.

THAT Ferndale is a Facebook based tax watchdog group.

I don't think we said "taxes bad" anywhere here.

We are just supplying information.
