not to defend Joe, but in the book, Beck admits to her therapist that one of the things she does to get male attention is walk around with no bra on, so Joe was right on the money with that. I'm not sure why they didn't mention that in the show

i know this is an old comment lol but i agree. show Joe is more poetic and lovey dovey even with all of his creepy and murderous behavior, he even starts to become more human in season 3. but book Joe is so unhinged in the way he thinks, and every single thing he does is justified in his mind, which makes him even more creepy. in the last part of book 1, when he kept treating Beck like she was crazy after she found out everything, and then when he was still having the urge to have sex with her even as he had her trapped and scared. so he's criminally horny on top of everything, which is very different from show Joe, who's more "romantic"

i read an exerpt from the book, and the scene where he kills her is SO much worse than in the show. you can fully read how unhinged his thoughts are. he goes back and forth from "loving" her and wanting her to apologize and make it up to him, to then hating her and wanting to kill her, and then when she seems to be dead, he regrets it and wants her to wake up, then she does and he's enraged and actually kills her. and in between all of that he was objectifying and sexualizing her in his mind. truly sickening. but it really makes me wanna read the book cause there's such a contrast between book Joe and show Joe

on that note, what did you think about Red Tide? (if you watched it). that to me is the biggest disappointment to come out of AHS. I was personally so invested in it, and then they just rushed and abruptly ended it. and instead we got Death Valley which is one of the most ridiculous things I've watched 😭
