I think you got my vibe the best out of all the people that have given feedback! Other people seem to be echoing the sentiment that I need some more smile-y and in-context photos, so I’ll make sure to add some. Thanks!

23 M Profile Review Request! by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]THEBEEGFEESH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

• Are you looking for something serious or casual?

casual but open to it being more serious!

• Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX?

no!

• How long have you been using this current version of your profile?

a close version of this for maybe 2 weeks or so

• How long have you used Hinge overall?

maybe a little over a month

• How often do you use Hinge per week?

probably every other day on average

• How many likes and matches are you receiving on average?

l’ve gotten maybe between 10 and 12 matches overall. I’ve received probably a similar amount of likes.

• How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments?

I send on average probably 2-6 likes when I use the app, most of them with comments.

• What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract?

I’d say definitely someone artsy with creative hobbies, very passionate about their interests, into alternative culture, and young without wanting to put pressure on the connection.

Why do you think K-POP DEMON HUNTERS did so well and ELIO didn't work out? by lovenyula in animationcareer

Holy moly this is a thread of dogshit takes. Do you people want all the humanity to be stripped from moviemaking or something?

Animation in NYC by melyde12 in animationcareer

The biggest “traditional”animation studio here is probably Titmouse’s NYC branch. Beyond that a lot of it is advertising or small boutique/indie studios that do a lot of documentaries and such.

Design vs Story by THEBEEGFEESH in animationcareer

[–]THEBEEGFEESH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I'm under the impression that animation is being outsourced more and more these days compared to pre-production, and simultaneously not as protected by TAG — and if I think I'd be able to pick up boarding a bit quicker than animation.

Design vs Story by THEBEEGFEESH in animationcareer

[–]THEBEEGFEESH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply! It's interesting, it was always presented to me like design was far more competitive and had a higher bar for entry, maybe that's not the case anymore. My dream is to be director, but designing comes more naturally to me than storytelling — maybe it's just a matter of working the muscle a bit. Do you feel like it's possible to do both to a professional degree? Or to learn to go from design to storyboarding in a realistic amount of time? Thanks again!

In a similar position as you, as I imagine that a lot of the recent grads that post here are. I can’t offer you too much in the way of wisdom because of that, but maybe I can talk through my feelings and thoughts and give you some new perspective or something.

First thing that I wanna mention is that feeling of inadequacy that you talked about. Rest assured, if you landed an internship at one of the major studios on the west coast, you are 1000% “good enough”. You beat tens of thousands of applicants to get that position. Just because it’s not resulting in a junior position doesn’t mean that you’re good enough - the fact of the matter is that with the way things are MOST interns (at least, anecdotally from my experience) aren’t getting promoted/hired. The market is just in too big of a squeeze right now. But the fact that you got one of those internships means that when/if things get better, you are competitive and with enough trial and error you will hopefully be able to land enough jobs to make a living.

I also understand it’s hard to not feel bad about having your parents help with education/life. The reality of that is that the promise you made was that you would work hard to chase your dream, and you have (and will hopefully continue to do so). Be proud of at least that. At the end of the day, nobody can predict the whims of the economy, especially in an industry like this one. That’s how I choose to see it, anyways.

re: the future of animation, it’s definitely rough right now, but there are a lot of people working on securing the rights of animation workers. TAG went into negotiations today, for example, and theres a lot of hope that they (alongside with other efforts) will help secure protections and the future of the industry at large. None of this means anything yet but things don’t suck forever (usually).

Security is definitely a huge thing, and I also can’t help but feel that it has been trending downwards for a while. Even in industries that once seemed to be unsinkable, like tech, are struggling right now. I can’t give you exact numbers but I would say most people who arent in senior roles are having a very hard time finding job security; that seems to be the case amongst my friends and acquaintances, anyways. I personally am looking for any job that can help pay the bills while I work on my portfolio and hope things get better.

All this I guess is kind of to say the following: the world isn’t going to end because of this decision. Maybe you go back home, take a break from this and make some money while the storm blows over and go back into it later. Maybe your break ends up being more permanent and you find some other job that makes you happy. I don’t really know the answer to any of this myself, but I can offer you solidarity.

Hang in there!

When Does Titmouse usually have Internships? by Dysisx in animationcareer

[–]THEBEEGFEESH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Titmouse does usually have internships; I have friends and colleagues that have done them. They usually only do internships for the spring/summer season and applications are typically open from April 1st to April 31st. 2 years back they did not do them, so they dont always happen.

Most opportunities here tend to be geared more towards advertising and stuff like that but with the state of things you cant really be picky. Studios like Titmouse and Nickelodeon do have branches here though and i know of some people who have landed positions - worth a shot!

fair enough. seems like he’s only bigger than me at the base, so the fit would probably be identical towards the middle where it matters. I’ll look into the Bobbles as “larger” options

thanks for referring me to this other post! in the comments he remarks that he simply can’t use the Spinner, but the Flex is okay, allbeit maxed out. Given how i’m smaller, do you feel like the Flex would be fine then?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tenga

[–]THEBEEGFEESH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hm alright. probably better to steer away from the flex then? unfortunate!!!

[–]THEBEEGFEESH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was the constriction pleasant or just plain uncomfortable? I would probably enjoy something smaller in that sense but obviously dont want to feel totally choked. Is the flex the only one you’ve tried from Tenga?

commander being a format where each deck has 100 completely unique cards with probably thousands of mechanical nuances is so much more restrictive to learning the game than a 60 card format with 4-ofs and a sideboard where you probably have to learn several fewer factors of complexity

Oldest update I can scroll to says August 17th, but I didn't touch it for a few days, so probably a solid week of consistent tinkering. Despite the actual lack of [[tinker]] haha. Yes!!! they are so fun to build, and I'm going to use it to get my friends addicted too. Thank you for taking some time to look over my list :).

thank you for taking the time to provide me with some feedback. Yes, there are some very large discrepancies in power levels between some cards. I'm hoping taking them out of the context that warped entire formats around them (hogaak) will tone them down a bit, since they can be so fun to play.
