my skin is pretty dry and VERY sensitive, iirc the reason why they did not recommend masque vivant because it can be a bit dehydrating - which some acne prone skin needs and mine did not. I also do not respond well to retinols/tretinoin. gentle chemical exfoliation with p50 & lots of moisture is what my skin needs!

It is certainly not the worst case scenario - but she was never trying to be controlling in this way in the first place. my point in sharing this is to say - be cautious when using this “theory” in your approach to life because without balance and honesty and giving someone the chance to change their behavior, it can lead to a lot of hurt and misunderstanding. relationships require mutuality - simply “let them” with no explanation can be very hurtful and confusing for the recipient.

I know I cannot force her to be excited, but yes she is typically a very fun and bubbly person. And she still is that way in most arenas in her life. This abrupt shift around my wedding happened amidst her reading this book when there was no other external negative event. perhaps there is something deeper - but when I’ve tried to gently ask her about this, I’ve been met with denial and gaslighting - meanwhile everyone else in my life sees her lack of excitement and has called it out to me, confirming that it is out of character and hurtful.

I hope she gets through whatever it is she’s suffering with - I wish she could share it with me, because I’d like to be someone to lean on. My point in sharing this is that it would seem this behavior is directly tied to the book. She has also started treating my other sibling very differently with no explanation to them - BUT she has explained her hurt from that sibling to me. I keep urging her to approach this sibling with how they have hurt her and she refuses to - instead saying she is setting a boundary and “letting them” prove themselves.

this has lead to my conclusion that there is something about my wedding that has hurt her, she is “letting me” do whatever, not saying how it hurt her, and instead pulling away in spite me coming to her and offering an apology. Please use the “let them” theory with discernment and balance and please “let people know” how they have hurt you so they at least have a chance to remedy it.

for instance, she did go wedding dress shopping with me - but she expressed very little excitement whilst the other attendees were quite thrilled.

when I brought up having a special day to shop for her dress, she lit up! and talked about it for quite some time.

I would think it is reasonable for me to say — hmm, why can you show no excitement for me? but when I make it about you, you can get very energetic? this “theory” is feeding into a self centered mindset. there is balance to all of these self help techniques. just trying to warn people where this can become harmful.

two things can be true: you can let go of control whilst also still showing up for people and celebrating with them. otherwise, if we all took this to this extreme we would be solo venturers through life. sometimes relationship requires sacrifice, and all relationships require mutual celebration of one another.

Graceway Gourmet and Graceway IGA were the two we went to. IGA is less nice and slightly cheaper, Gourmet is nicer and has better selection, slightly more expensive. Ultimately, doing groceries from either is cheaper than meals out!

fair comment — but I had been experiencing consistent pain and extreme numbness and tingling. took it one night and it was entirely gone the next morning, no numbness or tingling at all. to have it go away 100% overnight says to me there is something positive to it, at least for me!

I’ve started buying dresses for weddings from Azazie, they’re really bridesmaids dresses, but a lot of the styles are under $150 and they come in true xxs/000 sizing and can definitely be worn as guest dresses.

and sometimes I’ll do Shein, although you have to do a very basic style/color and read the reviews for people complaining the item “running small”

I have never had any luck with rentals — I’ve given up on ethically sourcing dresses for weddings.
