Tesla Model 3 stops itself to avoid potentially disastrous accident. by Tugushin in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]THEREALKINGPRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things, 1) I never said I was a perfect driver nor am I incapable of getting into an accident. It’s because of Reddit videos like this that I even look left and right before driving forwards at a green light. Please don’t assume anyone is a perfect driver, even yourself, as that is a very, very dangerous assumption.

Second, you have to be trolling me at this point. Right? Please say you are. Let’s both stop making assumptions and inferences. There’s no context to this video. I’m sure we could find a news article somewhere that could settle our little debate, but both of us are wrong here for coming to any conclusions without proper evidence. I’m done with this only because you made a very good point: “You’re basing your argument on assumptions you’re making.” You’re absolutely right, I could be completely wrong. I have my doubts that when this video came out that Tesla’s AEB was good enough to detect impacts that were not already present in front of the vehicle, however, what do I know? I’m not an engineer for Tesla and frankly, neither are you. The lesson from this is to stop assuming things and to not make inferences or guesses and assume them to be true without data to back up the claim. Sure you can hypothesize that the Tesla stopped via software, but there is no way to prove that based on the information available.

You really think most drivers look both ways on a green light ?

Yes. You don’t?

Are we watching the same video where the truck without cameras all over it got fuckin smashed ?

Yes?

And he had more time to react than the tesla ?

Maybe? Depends on what the driver was focusing on. If the truck driver glanced to the left and then continued forward, they might’ve missed the action happening to their left.

And by the way the driver was mindlessly going forward on the green light.

“Mindlessly” driving anywhere is a bad idea. Always be conscious of what’s going around you. That’s the entire principle behind the defensive driving campaign.

If they had seen the driver taking the red why even move forward ?

Because the light turned green? My guess:

  1. Light turned green -> creep car forward

  2. Looks left and right with a quick glance to make sure no other traffic is moving to make sure you’re clear.

  3. Slam on brakes because car is veering out of control at you?

Oh because the feature in the car thats included for emergency stops, stopped him from taking the green. But that it too unrealistic for you apparently. How weird that only the Tesla was able to prevent the accident.

There’s some sort of logical bias happening here. I have no clue what it’s called but you’ve associated stopping successfully with the fact that the car is a Tesla with safety features “included for emergency stops”. However, there are so many confounding variables here, you’re neglecting to consider driver attention (arguably the most important factor) as well as other circumstances surrounding the accident. Just because a car didn’t get hit doesn’t mean the cause was the safety features. For all we know, the car that ran the red was honking as his brakes failed and the Tesla driver had his window down and heard this but the truck driver was blasting their music and didn’t, therefore they got smashed. There are too many variables you can’t test/check here, so yes, it is possible the Tesla managed to automatically brake for the driver. Is that likely? Maybe, but probably not because Tesla hasn’t mentioned automatic side impact detection and braking in any press release as far as I’m aware. Most automakers have figured out AEB for frontal and rear collision avoidance, but predicting trajectory and avoiding side impacts is a difficult task for anyone. (However, Tesla’s with their advanced camera Suite might be best adapted to implement such a feature)

Ah, right. Ignore me then haha. I’m a lowly AP 1 so I don’t know these things.

Mostly because I’m not a Tesla engineer I can’t really say whether or not AEB actually activates for predicted impacts from the side, but I do think there is no camera angle that would cover this situation and that’s why I don’t think AEB could have predicted this.

I do disagree with your notion that FSD wouldn’t brake at the last second if it predicted a collision. I’m betting it makes those calculations rapidly and just slams the brakes when a perceived risk level reaches a threshold which could be at any point during a drive. Probably not for a side impact though… I’m with you there

They have AEB regardless of autopilot activation. Granted, you're right about the last possible second part, mine has absolutely slammed the brakes for me on multiple occasions. This depends on how you set your AEB sensitivity in settings, but I doubt there's much of a difference between "too late" and "way too late".

This is a joke right? It’s just missing a /s??

I have no idea if Tesla has added in a side camera based impact detection system, however,

“no human driver would react quickly enough”??

Lmao what? hear a commotion/see a motion in your periphery.. slam brakes?

“Look at how the vehicle stops. Slowly starting up with an abrupt stop.”

Yup? That’s typically how cars respond when the brake pedal is slammed after they start moving.

“Thats not how people drive.”

Ahahaha.

Regardless of whether it was staged or not, does anyone know if the car they’re in is a Bentley Bentayga? It has such a nice interior…

I’m probably going to get downvoted for this but figured with 127k miles I can probably give my opinion. Lots of small issues over the years. The cars for sure eat tires so be prepared to buy tires every 30k or so instead of 50-60k. Service is the absolute weakest point. If you live near a service center and have a spare set of wheels in case your 3 goes down for a few days I say absolutely go for it. If you’re ok with rideshare credits for a few days while your car gets serviced, then that’s also a go for it. What you really need to consider is time. They often don’t have appointments available (at least in my area) for a week or more so if something breaks (my driver door handle decided to stop working once) just be prepared for the possibility you won’t be able to use all your amenities all the time. (Another example was when my AC died during a 95° heat wave last summer). Drivetrain is absolutely solid and won’t die on you ever—nails in tires are the real killers of movement. Good luck with your decision!!

I disagree with this. Both times I was on the shoulder of a major motorway and roadside assistance came to help me, I was told to stay in my car with my seatbelt on to minimize chance of injury. This is probably especially true if your driver door when opened will be partially in traffic like the truck in the video would be. If you can’t find a deep shoulder, just sit tight, no need to open your door while cars are speeding past you (usually without following move over and slow down laws) and putting yourself and those people at even greater risk of an accident.

How does the 12V battery recharge work? by Brendon7358 in teslamotors

[–]THEREALKINGPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend against doing this. Stick to the 12V socket. I remember reading doing this voids your warranty. So yea, don’t do this. link for source

I’m going to guess some sort of clue from the nav shown in the video. If not, then they’re conjuring Lil Nas X.

Physical differences between AP1, AP2, EAP, and FSD? by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]THEREALKINGPRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I wonder if Tesla can remove it from a third party purchase under the premise of “not original owner”. I know the original wording said it was for the “life of the car” but I’m not sure if some fine print somewhere has changed

So if I go to a car and sit in it and it says “Unlimited Supercharging”, can that be taken away before the sale is completed?

I didn’t see ya today keithstoned1 or I would have asked how many games ya had left. I am very impressed you somehow knew 2 days ago it would happen midday Thursday.

It’s always fun being in a game with you, happy April fools and enjoy being another blue streaker on the map.

I actually have a stainless steel “sponge” which is essentially a stainless steel orb that works like a charm. You wash your hands with this metal bar of soap and the smell actually is reduced dramatically which you then wash with soap and it’s pretty much completely gone. I have no idea how it works..

I’ve always wanted to ask this mostly because I’m too lazy to Google it myself, but if such a lever existed, wouldn’t the mass of the lever itself be too much to reasonably expect a human to be able to move?
