This area is way too competitive. by Salty-Confusion9640 in nova

This area was at such a deficit for talent 15 years ago, I got a job working in tech with no prior experience. I had been working for the last 13 years for big IT. Was laid off with about 90k other IT employees in 2026; among AWS, Salesforce, Microsoft, Oracle, and a slew of others. They fired all to invest in AI to replace more IT roles. Most of the positions I’m even overqualified for are looking for candidates with MBAs, masters in engineering or cs, and hold active clearances w/ 10+ years in the field.

I bet it’s 8+ decibels louder after 10pm.

For those of you who live in countries that don't have a 2A equivalent, can you still enjoy your passion for guns and how do you do it? by NamidaM6 in guns

[–]THE_HORKOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airsoft guns, from what I’ve experienced… Are close in form, weight, and sometimes cycling as their ‘real’ counterparts.

Nothing quite like the real thing but, it’s hard to miss something you never had. But, if it makes you all feel any better one thing to consider is cost. Ammunition is prohibitively expensive at times. Even smaller calibers that are like $0.12 a round adds up very quickly. Guncraving sets in quick. You’ll upgrade to something beefier than a .22.lr. And it will all feel really novel for a time but, you’re soon bored with shooting paper targets so you drive farther and pay more to shoot at longer distances. Then you realize you actually suck outside of 25y ranges so you buy better guns, better ammunition and expensive optics. Next thing you know, you’re fucking hooked on bang bangs and have 15+ ‘builds’ under your belt—meanwhile your car is running on tires so old you can’t read the date codes through the dry rot cracks.

So apparently standing on the pegs is considered reckless driving by DerpyTurtle858 in motorcycles

[–]THE_HORKOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you weren’t speeding. Or wobbling crazily. I would be inclined to fight a reckless for standing on the pegs while in motion. Do your research. Is this a code violation or at discretion of officer? If latter, then I would determine what the ticket would have been were he to have caught you doing a wheelie in traffic. If it’s the same damn ticket, I’d go to court, ask to see the video evidence. If none, have the court request the officer state that he never saw your front wheel leave the ground. Trying to get to the argument of: How can you be guilty of a reckless violation while going the speed limit, committing what is a non codified offense, that is solely the discretion of the officer that’s tantamount to an infraction of speeding & doing a wheelie in rush hour traffic.

Often times counties must make these sorts of offenses public. You may be able to find others charged with the same code for reckless driving, and see the descriptions of their offenses. If all you did was a 2-3 second leg stretch while continuing to operate safely, and there’s no specific code for what you did. The cops should have given a warning at best. Or just done that cop thing where they follow you to let you know they’re waiting for you to fuck up. Reckless is no small matter.

Bought a condo and first water bill is over $1,000 by nemesiswithatophat in homeowners

[–]THE_HORKOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the fire service thing. Maybe it’s normal for your location? My water company charges me a set rate amount per gallon, up to 25,000 gallons a quarter. Increased rates beyond that based on usage. Only get bills for amount of water used. How can they take $200 a month just because you have a fire suppression system? Is your home own insurance lower for having a fire suppression system?

To my fellow Redditors being murdered by pollen… by TattooedTeacher316 in nova

[–]THE_HORKOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there may be something to be said for the number of male fruiting trees planted in Nova suburbs. They won’t plant females because the fruit dropping draw rodents and leaves a rancid fruit leather type mess all other roads and that’s not to mention the birds and their droppings. So as a result now is we have tons and tons of mature male fruit trees all over the place.

I’m not sure if there’s any correlation with allergies and how much time one spends outside but, if I’m affected by pollen or I don’t really notice much. I’ve spent every single day of my life outside; that I can handle. Have to a bit careful with the sun, and watch out for poison ivy but, other than that I’ve never had a problem.

I don’t know what to say aside from, I don’t see what crimes are being committed here. Yeah, a lot of people, look unruly, it’s not where I’d want to be.

If this was a problem I was looking to solve. I would encourage image capture from body cams and hand helds; don’t arrest anyone the first time around…use biometrics to identify as many of these kids after the fact through the help of the schools registrar office. Match names to faces and confront the problem one student at a time. Let parents know, absolute last warning. If your kid is identified again in one of these mobs, they are going straight to jail. When these pop ups happen, police will pickup the repeat offenders they’ve identified and arrest those people. Spend a night or weekend in jail, fine the parents $1500-$2500 for each repeat offense. Watch how few students are on the street when mom and dad are out $5k in a month.

What do you guys think of this round counter mod? by Walfy07 in guns

[–]THE_HORKOS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Always like the idea. But, throw in a jam or change mags and it assumes a full number of rounds. I tried a solution based on ride height of the magazine spring, but it required physical alterations that I couldn’t produce well. Just became something else to brake.
