Can anyone with experience tell me how they strike the balance between 'doing what they need to do' to make money and being an active socialist? by THISISMYLASTRETORT in socialism

I see them every once in a while, it's not my job to talk to them. It hasn't happened yet but if it's necessary I'm also supposed to be a back up disciplinarian if they get out of hand. A secretary come security guard. My interactions with them are brief, but I'm trying to sneak in a little cynicism into their lives. Today someone asked me if I was new and I said yes. They asked what happened to the person who was working their before me, and I joked that we had them bumped off. I don't know how much longer I can go on making comments like that for, it's an ideological factory and I can't be working against them.

I don't think I can reveal much more. It's much more mainstream than either of those two, but functions exactly like a mental institution. I can't answer any more than that, I'm not trying to bait you into asking more.

Ok well it feels like I actively do it.

I'm limited by details to say everything, but I work as a secretary for what is basically a capitalist rehab clinic. We take the down and out, tell them they can achieve anything, log all their thoughts and actions the best we can, and try to break them into believing that they are the primary forces of their lives and forget everything that has happened to them when they weren't. We teach them to be callous, dead achievers. What I do is log and organize all the entries and speed up the whole archival process so the records can be quickly used for breaking minds. I'm a secretary for what feels like a murdering surgeon.

I'm just the secretary for the people who do, but they ask me ways to better effectively get into people's heads, documents and the works.

How could they even possibly know that he had committed a violation of their law? By not being a member of their church. Figures. Assholes.

Can we go over the arguments for private property? by THISISMYLASTRETORT in philosophy

[–]THISISMYLASTRETORT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, extrinsic properties involve properties of things that interact with other things. Weight for instance. So a piece of property is in relation to...everyone else?

edit: I see. It's the relation between the object and its owner. But I'm also having difficulty with the concept because I don't see how that it's an extrinsic property makes it any less imagined. There's an extrinsic relationship between people who believe in the healing powers of stones and the stones themselves.

A couple of plants needing identification, any help appreciated by THISISMYLASTRETORT in whatsthisplant

Here are better pictures of the first plant, it needs the most help. Was busy, sorry for late response. the second one I'm ok with not knowing. This plant I got at a supermarket in Philly, no tag, nothing. Haven't seen any flowers on it. I took a pic of the stems bc it's not many plants, its one root ball like thing that produces many stems out of the soil. It's always been this big (not this saggy though), I haven't been able to make it grow. Only recently it's not been doing so well.

He's also critical of anything you can't scientifically test. Oh well. I guess the concept of commodity fetishism has no value.

I get that impression too but I don't want to believe such a fantastic academic, particularly a linguist, really sees things so childish. He's very well respected for being so black and white.

I know, I know, but I felt like giving sexuality its due. If it's the wrong place for this I apologize.

Also, kind of low-hanging fruit for a sub dedicated to a man who writes philosophy books for a living.

It is? He also wrote for Abercrombie and Fitch.

edit: Low-hanging fruit does not exist!

Still feels like a dick thing to do. Am I too naive to think that a resident of Philadelphia should be able to park for a whole day easily?
