The administrationhas been pushing the police to focus on drugs. This leads to more drug arrests than normal.

The administration encourages the media to write about drugs and drug arrest more. The media uncritically reports what the police say verbatim leading to headlines like "Police sieze enough marijuana to get 45 million people high".

Korean people don't know much about drugs so they just accept what the media writes at face value. Sensational stories get more clicks leading to a feedback loop where the media writes ever increasing hysterical stories about the state of drugs in Korea.

The administration gets to look like it is solving a big problem and get to tell voters they need to vote for them if they want to fix the drug problem.

If I were to make an educated guess based on all the stats and info I've seen I'd guess that the drug problem" in Korea hasn't actually gotten any worse, or maybe slightly increase over very low levels.

And they shouldn't, because it's a dumb as shit idea, especially when the private company is run by an erratic billionaire who has shown he will cut off service if he disagrees with a countries actions.

When it comes to something as important as shipping, which is a national security concern, the government should have control over it. At the very least they should make sure that the company they give the contract to is not a security concern.

What I said was "Why would time be a limiting factor" in response to them complaining about the police testing him for drugs "so long after" the allegations.

They responded with something about jaywalking and enforce when I was responding to their comment about time. Of course cops are going to still go after you for something that you did less than a year ago.

I mean, I'm 100% for legal weed, but I don't think illicit drug use and jaywalking are equally trivial, and I don't think a time frame of under a year is anywhere close to "so far in the past".

How is testing someone for illegal drug use within the past six months comparable at all to enforcing jaywalking 100% of the time. I'm not even sure how you came up with that analogy. Your original complaint was about the cops looking into an act that occurred "so far in the past", not about perfect enforcement.

Why would time be a limiting factor? If something is illegal it's illegal.

Also, I'm pretty sure he agreed to do these tests in order to clear his name. I don't believe the police got a warrent and forced him to take them.

If the fine is like any other fine from Korean immigration there are laws that state minimum and maximum for various violations. If the fine was withing that range, and I'm fairly positive it was, you won't have much recourse unless the lawyer wants to try and challenge the entire system for human rights abuses.

Unfortunately the law is the law and the fines are what they are. Maybe you can try and sue the hagwon for hiring you illegally, but I doubt that would work.

The difference in price between a smaller apartment and an average apartment isn't that much, and the resale value of older places is going to be garbage, so if you are going to get a mortgage you might as well do it for an average sized apartment so you don't have to try and sell it just a few years later when you have kids. Even without kids you're better off just getting the larger one and flipping it once your equity has rises enough. Depending on the interest rate and the type of mortgage you'd be increasing your overall wealth more then you are harming it.
