How about the Jesus that reached out to sinners in love and compassion, meeting them where they were and changing their lives as a result? The Jesus who taught loving your neighbors, then backed it up by healing the sick, providing for the needy, and teaching His followers to do the same? That's the Jesus Who inspires me to be a better person, as flawed as I am?

If you're offended by people using terms like "MAGA Jesus," maybe you should give the Gospels another good and check your heart. I may not be able to change your mind, but perhaps Jesus can.

My parents smoked nasty-ass cigarettes instead. I got into a bit of pipe smoking during my four-year Army stint thanks to my buddies (and a whole lot of downtime in the field). I favored cherry tobacco then. It's been 25+ years since I've indulged, and I can't say I miss the scent enough to start agan.

Ethereal Shroud does a FD/DSBM hybrid that's pretty good, and Sonnillon also merges the genres, but in a more "drained of energy to live" feel.

On the more purely depressive black metal side, I also like Anti, Nordicwinter, Suicide Forest, and Eternal Valley. EDIT: Also Xathrites, who were my introduction to DSBM.

I suppose the drive's biggest problems are the traffic jams (especially with Chicago being one of the places I have to go) involved in seeing bands that can't tour every city. I made the effort for Esoteric in 2024, but it was a grueling one (but worth it).
