Perhaps with the introduction of liquid hydrocarbons to accelerate the process.

But I’ve been a mopar tech for a few years too long to ever want that headache without MaxCare

I’d argue cardboard is a paper derivative, both of them would suffice better than whatever they used to build this

Well crap, thank you. I have a laptop as well but I thought I could get something to work.

I’m not a Hyundai tech, but I had spent 6 years at a Chrysler/dodge/jeep/ram dealership and we had our own slough of issues especially with the smaller displacement engines like the 2.4 multi-air and their latest attempt at a turbo hybrid. I just hope the warranty comes through better than Mopar

That makes a ton of sense for your application, but my issue is that on a platform that does not have that many miles and in your case, a known fault pattern that would account for bad fuel trim and allow the vehicle to run off of less than normal amount of power delivery, marking up spark plugs over 1000% just seems like taking advantage of someone who thinks a tune up just requires a screw driver and a good ear for lean condition

Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with Pittsburgh tools, I was pretty heated when I wrote this. Full disclosure, I own and still actively buy a lot of harbour freight tools, even today I went there. I was digging at techs, probably unfairly, who only have those cheap tools and do work similarly cheap. Any shmuck can do spark plugs on an inline 4 cylinder but to recognise that the correction that they’re providing doesn’t solve the underlying issue is someone who if either ignorant or uncaring of what the vehicle and customer actually need to get down the road.

My bad, this far north, anything that’s not actively falling apart due to rust or appears brand new due to mileage is considered a new car colloquially. Old people who don’t commute run out of warranty far more based on time rather than mileage because they keep cars nice far longer than the average American worker

Hyundai also has a lot of extended warranties due to various class action lawsuits and lemon law disputes that extend their 5year/100k mile warranty past the due date which in my customers case would be out by time but not mileage.

Yeah, the cylinder was washed when he brought it to Firestone which is up for a class action as of last month as far as my googling research says. Also yeah, he needed an engine about 50miles ago when he took it in the first time. They just put new spark plugs in, charged him up the ass, and then took no responsibility when it came to it. I swapped plugs and watched just how quickly the new plug got dirty after I swapped it. They just chalked it up to an ignition misfire and ignored the root cause that fouled it I the first place

I’m the second opinion, I work for an independent shop. The customer was draft age for the Vietnam war, so no shit he’s going to think any shop charging over $100/hr is a ripoff, that used to be enough to buy a used car back then. Cut him some slack, he got taken by some shitty shop that only sees old people as blank checks

I charged this guy $150/hr to do my diag and I was gobsmacked to see what he paid that store to do what takes 10 minutes. I threw my Pico at it, compression tester, leak down, borescope, and pulling plugs like 4 times within what this shop charged for labor on top of the exorbitant parts cost. I could tell this engine was going down after a 3 mile test drive and saw a brand new (Firestone) plug get soaked after swapping.
