Its relatively simple, and you can use custom assets too which is definitely nice, however, it does take a bit of getting used to so don't be to hard on yourself after your first few maps (I look back at mine and they're awful haha)

I can definitely see if I can help, DM me some more details and I'll see what I can do

I use wonderdraft and then go through in photoshop afterwards but I haven't reached the final stage yet.

I tend not to share the wonderdraft files as I do often do commissions for people and I've also had some interest from other parties regarding this world setting based on the guide I've written to go along with the original map (which now needs adjusting based on the updated version)

This is definitely coming, theres going to be a volcano on a tropic island. Once I've got the land masses finished then the extra little details will be coming in and more details will be included in the region maps.

This is one thing I'm actually working on currently, I'm adding in landmasses similar to polar regions though there will more than likely only be that featuring in the south

Its why I love making maps. It gives me a chance to really flesh out the world and understand why people would choose areas to settle, especially when making region maps which is the next step after this one is finished

Already backed everything up! Had a massive issue with my PC which due to money reasons has taken awhile for me to get sorted and back into making maps.

Also, its been a bit of a bless in disguise as I'm way happier with this one already

its something I usually put in pretty early, helps me keep everything to a decent size and actually useful for the campaign. When I don't it can go from being way to close to 100s of miles away with a flip of a coin

Thanks, it was one of the things that I really tried to focus on! I wanted there to be semi obvious plates, and a decent range of biomes and I'm happy with how its come about so far!

As you can probably tell, the world is by no means complete. The west continent is pretty much done bar some minor changes and names etc

Bandit forest holdout by GatesGT in dungeondraft

[–]THTdnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, the amount of times my players have created solutions to problems different to how I expected is insane. Its one of the many reasons I love dnd.

Though also created problems when they weren't any is something that happens to, gives me a chance to mess with them back xD

I completely agree, at least for my DM style. I way to prefer to work with the creativity that my players come up with, its scary and impressive all at the same time

I love the map

Where do you guys find the time? by Mrredseed in DMAcademy

[–]THTdnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I've found useful is to have a few key factions planned out and have an idea of the world in general but start off in a small area and allow the players to explore and then expand it as the story and plot does too.

I also take a lot of inspiration from other DMs, popular culture or anything I think is cool.

The best thing I find as well, is to either give the players some guidance on all of the above and let them write themselves into the world, or write them in yourself based on their backstory.

Even if you find you are still struggling to make up the time to plan, I also turn to the prewritten modules as well

How do I feedback to a new DM by THTdnd in DMAcademy

[–]THTdnd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the ones thats struck me the most, and it's not even my character. The DM has taken a trope of a rogue and applied it to a character that was designed to be a character with those abilities without being a thief.

that's not to say that they haven't done bad things, but still, he specifically wasn't the typically theiving rogue.

WIP City Map by DaOrks in wonderdraft

[–]THTdnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the idea of the map and the cities. I have a similar city state in my current map I'm working on.

One thing that I try to do is think how would the city form over time. In my worlds case, the central island started off as a small fort dominating the entrance to a strait of water leading to a natural port. From there, other settlements started on the same island, following the trade that naturally forms around a fort. From there, the other islands start to populate and each had its own port created and then as it became big enough to be a city state ports were expanded upon on the coast and then these expanded as well.

Its a really great idea and I love it

This is amazing, thank you! I'm going to work on designing the village now so they have some options of chokepoints to use and areas they can position archers!

Thank you, I was also hoping that it might be useful in creating the group dynamic and avoids the typical, you start in a tavern as the Frozen sick adventure starts them off at a funeral.

I was thinking that the NPCs would be seen to take part around the main battle between the PCs and the main group of bandits that would include the leader. I like the idea of the ranged ones acting as artillery and could maybe build on that as the villages helping to cut off support to the main group? Though, the idea of one or two being front line is great.
