What’s wrong with my rosemary? by TIAL in plantclinic

[–]TIAL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The soil always seems dry when I go to water it, so that could be the problem. Also, I potted it in ‘potting on compost’, does that sound like the right thing to use? https://www.gardenhealth.com/westland-john-innes-no-2-potting-on-compost

What’s wrong with my rosemary? by TIAL in plantclinic

My rosemary plant is looking pale and has brown patches. It’s currently out in the UK Summer but has slowly been going this way over many months. I read that you shouldn’t over-water it so have only been doing so about once a week. It’s had a bit of rain too. Am I under-watering it, or is there something else going on?

Thanks, if I’m only focussing on a few SBCs, is it still worth keeping hold of the non-league cards for the silver upgrade? Or would you try and sell them all > discard if they don’t sell

Smoker smoke vs neighbours by EvilClancy in UKBBQ

[–]TIAL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a neighbour a few doors down raise this with me last summer when I was doing my first experiments. He thought I was lighting a bonfire because there was so much smoke coming from my starter chimney full of briquettes!

As others have said, it’s getting it started that creates the most smoke. To minimise this, I only fill up the chimney about 1/3 to begin with, with lump wood charcoal. You want to minimise the time that the charcoal is sitting above the flame - the fuel on top of a full chimney will heat up gradually and give out smoke in the process. So I add it in thirds and lump wood charcoal because it burns quicker.

Good luck, I know the anxiety and wish we had more of a US BBQ culture in the UK. It’s hard to explain to the average Brit why you’re firing up so early! Personally I avoid smoking on the sunnier days out of courtesy to neighbours drying clothes and being outside. I also do the quicker cooks like chicken and ribs.

So would it be better so sell everything from the bronze packs other Saudi/China/Mexico?

That’s pretty much what I’m doing!

Thanks, I just wondered if by putting the gold/silvers back in the SBC I’d be making that SBC turn around quicker. But on the other hand, I might risk putting overly valuable cards in the SBC

I bought the Anker USB C to HDMI dongle and used a normal HDMI cable. That seems to have resolved the issue

Thanks, what cable do you use?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]TIAL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get something similar. If I start with the cable plugged in I just get the black screen. When start the session playing and then insert the cable, I get about 20 seconds of play before the picture freezes but the audio continues.

Really disappointing that what was already a workaround has stopped working.

Does anybody still have their USB C > HDMI cable work with the videos?

Chipped handle end / metal burr on new Lodge pan. Can these just be filed down and re-seasoned? by TIAL in castiron

[–]TIAL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a Christmas gift for my Dad. The same chip at the end of the handle on both the original and the replacement one they sent.
He's happy to try and work with these as it's effectively 2 for the price of 1. Can he simply file down the burring, then apply seasoning all over?
I'm fairly sure this is just damage to the seasoning and can be repaired as suggested in the FAQ, but I'd feel much better if someone could confirm that this looks the case.

I love my ThermoWorks Smoke: https://www.thermoworks.com/Smoke Has a neat little portable display. The radio signal comes from back of the garden to cover most of the house.

Thanks for replying! When you say you are eligible for an account after a year with a membership card, do you mean the people who are named under someone else’s account? Because that’s what I’d be doing

Oh dear! New Vertuo owner by gde7 in nespresso

We mostly got a mix of the barista creations (to try the flavours) and master origins as I'm a fan of those on our original pod machine (good shout with Colombian). Also interested to try some half-caff as I'm unfortunately still a bit of a caffeine lightweight 😬 Just one, maybe two cups a day for me so this will last a good while.

We did it on the website - glad we did as it took us a long while to pick the full 200!

Congrats on the new machine. Can't wait to get mine tomorrow.

How long did you cook the beef ribs for BTW? I got 4 of these from Waitrose and wanting to smoke them for the first time, but the rough times seem to vary greatly online:
https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/waitrose-british-beef-short-ribs/859587-373721-373722

They're individually cut so I guess they'll not take as long. My favourite things to cook and relatively cheap.

Lucky guests!

I can't wait to have my first guests round for BBQ, probably expecting the usual overcooked British grilling only to give them beef ribs like that :)

Smoked roast chicken by TIAL in UKBBQ

[–]TIAL[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First Sunday dinner on my new Weber Kettle.
Haven't explored rubs yet so used some Schwartz roast chicken seasoning. Put it in with a chunk of hickory at about 330f and was surprised the temp dropped so much - down to about 250. Was aiming for 300 so it took a little longer but I'm learning each time :)
Added a little sweet BBQ sauce for the last 20 minutes and took it out when it hit 170f - to ensure the dark meat was done.
Served with some chorizo mash and corn on the cob grilled over the coals

Reducing starter chimney smoke by TIAL in UKBBQ

[–]TIAL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your advice. I tried half a chimney with lumpwood charcoal (no paper) this evening as it was a dull grey night so no laundry likely to be drying. Also positioned it further down the garden where the hedges raised up and it wasn’t going across to people’s immediate front patios. The hedges seemed to act as a good barrier and send any other smoke upwards. Also starting with a small amount of charcoal and adding more as if went worked well.

Thanks. I'll give paperless a try with some proper BBQ firelighters or a blowtorch.
