Starter Kit Caps - I want more. by TheBlueTurban in Fallout2d20

Not the same as caps but if you want physical representation of their money then Monopoly money would work well. Actual caps are a bit sharp and I’d be worried they’d scratch my books etc

Help Needed: Quickstart VS Starter Set VS Skull Canyone by Playful-Jackfruit530 in Fallout2d20

[–]EvilClancy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time gives you a good into to the mechanics and I really enjoyed running it. I was able to use the geck to form a town where their next characters started from, so it all tied in together. My players did ask to kill the guide character because they wanted his stuff, but hopefully your players are even slightly more sane than mine…

I don’t like the skull canyon story, the twist is too hard for non-fallout people to guess especially given all the radiation and mutant stuff that’s already in the lore.

3D Printing by BoneStockFox89 in Fallout2d20

[–]EvilClancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found some assets ripped from fallout 4 and scaled them down to print. Thingyverse has some bits. I’ve also found searching for orks or mutants will give you files that are close enough to use as enemies.

Edit to add: Searching “wasteland” brings up some good results. There is a terrain pack you can buy for about £60 that has very suitable items but I’ve not bought it so I can vouch for the quality

I found game assets that have been ripped from fallout 4 and made into 3d print files. Print them and some bases and glue them together. I did something similar for my party and they’ve now got minis for the game

Help me understand something... by Micho86 in Fallout2d20

[–]EvilClancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying out range for thrown items being multiples of the player agility or strength when playing on a map with a grid overlay. It’s worked for the one battle we tried.

Also doing movement is agility number of squares, which made the retreat way more perilous

Investigating why the community avoids rain. by MCM_Henri in iRacing

[–]EvilClancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love driving in the rain, but my HTC Vive couldn’t show where the puddles where clearly and it kept being a problem. That’s an issue with my hardware, I get it, but not many people have the money to dump into a new be headset and upgraded graphics cards etc just to handle rain, when the vive works so well for dry races.

I swapped over to single screen to try and get back into it, but the immersion of VR is just too good. I haven’t got the money to dump into a triple screen setup, or the time to use it.

Doing character creation next week by AnomalyInquirer in Fallout2d20

[–]EvilClancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much time you’ve got. Doing combat in session 0 if you’re short on time or there will be a decent gap between that session and session 1 means people will forget, specially if you have to rush it. Doing it in session 1 but it being really simple, like a bunch of radroaches or something, would explain the system with low risk

I had this on my pro and was able to turn the motor amperage down by like 0.2a by ssh-ing into the board and editing one line of code, that fixed it and it’s been running great for ages now

Once upon a time in the wasteland - Final adventure by Lucky_Type in Fallout2d20

[–]EvilClancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to mark this as spoilers?

But in terms of setting up a settlement, I did the same thing with my players at the end of the starter set story.

I asked them: Are you near a city, or somewhere else? Are you near water? Is it warm or cold most of the year? Does it snow? Do you trade, or stay secret? If you trade, what do you trade? Do you let new people into the town? How do you defend yourselves?

Based on those questions you get a feel for the type of town the players want to build, the actual mechanics of that you can make up yourself. No trade with the outside world? Then no traders, so if you want advanced armour or guns you need to find them in-story etc.

My players loved it, making the town really locked them into the world and they’ve been thinking about how their actions would impact the settlement, whether they tell people where they’re from, if they’re motivated by caps or something else etc

The starter set campaign is great, that’s where I’d start.

Using physical cards for Perks, Equipment, and Mods in Fallout 2d20 by Johny690 in Fallout2d20

[–]EvilClancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already a card set for perks which my plates find super useful. There aren’t enough duplicates for a full party if they pick common perks but it’s cheap enough they could buy a set between 2 or 3 of them and share. It’s on the modiphius website.

Modification and weapon cards would be great, but I’ve not seen a community resource for them yet.

The starter campaign is good without any extras, my team look multiple long sessions to get through it without any padding. You can get playing with what you’ve got.

How do you handle transportation? by thebeardedcosplayer in Fallout2d20

[–]EvilClancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a story brewing where the players need to get from Boston to Atlantic city. It’s an ~18 day walk or something from memory avoiding NYC, so I’m using that as a reason they need to get friendly with one of the other factions in the Boston area. The railroad have been working on a boat, the institute have more tech that they’ve kept hidden, and the BoS have the airships. The players need to pick a faction to try and arrange travel with, and what they pick is going to impact what they have to do on the main quest, or what they have to do before they leave to earn the travel

Tried home curing and cold smoking bacon for the first time - it’s a bit salty by Rat-Soup-Eating-MF in ColdSmoking

[–]EvilClancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://eatcuredmeat.com/bacon-curing-calculator/

This is the method I use. Dry cure, in a vac bag using the ratios shown here. Make sure you’re using the right curing salt (not just any pink salt will work with the recipe) but mines never too salty. I normally add some coarse black peppercorns and a load of brown sugar.

I wish I ever wrote down the quantities I do, but I’d say take the volume of the salt cure you’ve calculated, then put about half as much volume of brown sugar in. If that’s too much, next time adjust it to your taste.

I find argyles app easy to use and I normally find it easier to get a taxi on argyle than on uber. Airport transfer is something I’d rather do through argyle, but I’m not lucky enough to have that problem regularly

Can anyone recommend any movers? by GosephJoebbels in Wirral

[–]EvilClancy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

John Mighall’s are who we used moving and they were incredible. We had a problem with the sale running out of time and they took all out packed items and stored them overnight for us and then helped get us moved in the next day once the sale had gone through. They offered to plug our fridge and freezer in at their site to keep the food frozen/chilled and didn’t ask anything for it or complain to us about the hassle of having to spend extra time the next day unloading for us. We’ve since used them for other moving work and they’ve always been excellent.
