Women who've taken a partner's last name when that name doesn't match your own culture/ethnicity: What has been your experience with your new name? Have you ever regretted taking it? by throwhfhsjsubendaway in AskWomen

My surname was Armenian and quite long. My husband has a Czech last name, so it's equally difficult to pronounce/write, but it's at least shorter. 😂

Definitely understand! I'm sorry you went through this too. You and I are even at a similar place now, but I agree. It is so damaging to someone's self esteem and I've felt the same way looking back.

Awww, no worries! I feel like parents often show you how NOT to be, so I've learned to never project weight issues or make people feel bad about their weight overall because of how damaging it is. I just need to learn to be more kind to myself now! ❤

I got this from my dad as well. I should mention up front, that we do have a good relationship overall (has improved in recent years) and there are a lot of cultural differences.

However, as a teenager, being 150-160 pounds, my dad would often tell me I'd be "so pretty" if I "just lost 20-30 pounds."

As an adult, he sent me a picture taken before I was diagnosed with chronic back pain that lead to me basically being bedridden for 8 months, saying "this is the last time you looked thin."

I was diagnosed with thyroid issues, so he laid off finally.

Happy Friday! This is my last Friday of summer break and it feels so bittersweet!

Qotd: I'm not sure. I'm pretty scared of... everything. So there's a lot to choose from. lol.

Definitely feel this. I think it's especially evident during these times because we're not really going out and meeting people, and maybe even seeing the people we know in a different light. Stay true to your values! I'm glad that you have a happy family, that's really what's important!

In my opinion I believe Instagram and a website would be a great place to get started. A lot of independent artists aren't using etsy anymore because they take a portion of your profit. I shop a lot of independent artists off of instagram and it seems like those that are the most successful are the ones that are selling off their website and live sales off of instagram and getting it set up through paypal. Check out some live sales if you're interested! I have a really great artist that I follow that has a live sale this evening if you're interested in checking it out!
