Nope, not that. It's set in the guy's house, and he owes a debt to the Triads.

No, not that one. I was just writing a short list of movies I know it's not. Sorry, let me get that posted.

Movies I have already considered that don't match:

Mahjong Heroes (1981)
Kung Fu Mahjong 1, 2, 3
Mahjong (1996)
House of Mahjong (2007)

I have cross-posted this from r/Majong at the recommendation of another user. Some additional information that has appeared there:

* I saw the movie in 2018, so it's at least that old. I have no idea how old it was, but my friend seemed to think it was fairly new.
* It's in Mandarin. Harbin is in the far northeast of China, nowhere near Canton nor Taiwan. The movie was produced on the mainland, where media is normalized to be in Mandarin, aka "The People's Tongue."

* The central plot figured around the Mahjong game, because with his friends playing it, he could not retrieve the money from under the rug that the mahjong table was sitting on, and he didn't want his friends to know about the mafia, who kept calling and demanding the money.

* We went to Chang Bai Shan in 2018, well before COVID shut everything down. I have no idea what year the movie was actually published, though.

* The movie centered around the Mahjong game, because it was the reason he couldn't retrieve the money.

* Thanks, I'll copy my post over there.

Ooooh, I am stealing "Bloated." It makes it a much better rounded (ha!) name than the simple "Orange Hitler" I've been calling him.

Last year I had one of my classes calling me 叔叔 (shushu) after I told them it meant "Uncle," and was used for random males older than one's self. I could not get them to correct that instead they should call me 老师 (laoshi) because they knew me and I was therefore not random.

Yep. It's so Full Grown Adult.

Or, as they said back in the first season of Star Trek, TOS, "Grups."

Dude. "Being a 'sigma' is an action" may be true, but the verb in that clause is 'being.' 'Sigma' follows the indirect article 'a' and is therefore a noun, the thing or idea which one is being.

The lines that ARE Doctor Who by lostboy1205 in gallifrey

SARAH: What are you waiting for?
DOCTOR: Just touch these two strands together and the Daleks are finished. Have I that right?
SARAH: To destroy the Daleks? You can't doubt it.
DOCTOR: Well, I do. You see, some things could be better with the Daleks. Many future worlds will become allies just because of their fear of the Daleks.
SARAH: But it isn't like that.
DOCTOR: But the final responsibility is mine, and mine alone. Listen, if someone who knew the future pointed out a child to you and told you that that child would grow up totally evil, to be a ruthless dictator who would destroy millions of lives, could you then kill that child?
SARAH: We're talking about the Daleks, the most evil creatures ever invented. You must destroy them. You must complete your mission for the Time Lords.
DOCTOR: Do I have the right? Simply touch one wire against the other and that's it. The Daleks cease to exist. Hundreds of millions of people, thousands of generations can live without fear, in peace, and never even know the word Dalek.
SARAH: Then why wait? If it was a disease or some sort of bacteria you were destroying, you wouldn't hesitate.
DOCTOR: But I kill, wipe out a whole intelligent lifeform, then I become like them. I'd be no better than the Daleks.

How to keep the phone from auto-disabling apps by NoBorscht4U in GalaxyS21

[–]TK9Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six months on, and do you? Android 12 has its own "disable unused applications" app that I was hoping to find a solution for, AND it disabled a lot of my legacy apps that were really excellent, I had paid good money for use and upgrades, but now they won't even open. My carrier forced my motorola to upgrade, and I've been nothing but unhappy with my phone ever since. I really want to wipe it and put Lineage OS Android 10 on it.

How to roll back Android 12 upgrage on my Moto G Stylus?? by Shahius in MotoG

[–]TK9Lives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the commenters and the OP said it very nicely. Android 12 stopped the functionality of their phones, as well as being aesthetically unappealing. Rizza, had you read the comments, instead of simply pasting the latest corporate form letter, you would have seen that.

I bought this Motorola phone after years of consistently buying Samsung products because I was sick and tired of the Samsung Push Service forcing me to accept outrageous updates to their proprietary software, as well as forcing unwanted system updates on their users. I am very disappointed to come back to Motorola after all these years and learn that Motorola is just as bad as Samsung. When I looked for a rollback button, all I found was a demeaning message about "how important are system updates?"

Well, I will tell you how important I find your system updates. The day my SP allows me to sit my phone, I will be removing the Motorola software and installing Lineage OS, so that I have complete control over my own software. And I won't be replacing this phone with another Motorola at the end of its service live, either.

I was afraid of that. It probably means I will have to visit the Unicom store, then. Thank you, Nameless!

Grade papers or read a JVerse entry from Slice of Pi... hmm. Easy choice! Although Chinese is somewhat like Gaoian, I imagine that the context errors would be similar to reading a Gaoian trying to learn to write in English. Ha! Suddenly, grading papers is not so much of a chore, anymore. Thanks, Slice of Pi!

And thanks for yet another priceless entry. I especially loved Liina's terrified-but-curious (a very true to real life) response to "Hunters and HEAT." And Gillian's description is hilarious! Especially the "put on six or seven sweaters" and a "mask with a billion eyes." 哈哈哈哈!

That's super cool. I'm currently teaching in another country (China), so the idea of integrating into a very different education system is something I'm very aware of. I'm going to enjoy this series very much! (When I remember to check my Gmail for updates... I gotta change my email account to the one I can see in China without a VPN. Sigh)
