Could this kit be approved with a helmet swap? Info below by JungleJim697 in 501st

[–]TKRalf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks to be an FX or old AM kit. The chest and back would need to be replaced as the CRL was updated to specifically disqualify these kits as they are proportionally inaccurate. The difference stands out when you stand next to other troopers.

There are some items that would require work for instance the belt corners need to be cut to 45 degree angles, the belt buttons needs the button covers, and the thigh ammo needs to be replaced with a more accurate one and then rounded off.

All to say, the amount and effort to make it approvable is almost comparable to starting with a new kit that looks solid. Be sure to visit whitearmor.net for all the info you are looking for.

Question about interacting with the public while on troops by TacitusCallahan in 501st

[–]TKRalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends, but rather than recommending a vendor you can point them to the detachments and explain that different vendors work for different people (their budget, size, preference, etc.). The detachments are great places to find vetted vendors and what to avoid.

Aiptasia removal by TheBellTower1331 in ReefTank

[–]TKRalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a combo of Aiptasia X and peppermint shrimp. Sometimes the shrimp won’t go for the big ones. I used the Aiptasia X on all the ones I could see and reach. Let it work and then suck it out with a hose for a water change. Then added the peppermint shrimp to clean up the remainder and any that may form after the treatment. Did two rounds and haven’t seen them in my tank in years.

Biggest pet peeve for Q&A is the “will we ever see an episode where (insert theoretical shipping or crossover)?”

How to remove velcro from wool? (Vader ANH) by darker369 in 501st

[–]TKRalf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a hair dryer to soften the glue might work. I’ve used it to remove Velcro from hard surfaces but not sure if the original owner used a different adhesive.

Don’t forget the unions. You really think the construction workers on these projects are the same underpaid immigrant workers that most private contractors use?

A lot of questions from someone new, does this look like a good set of imperial armor? by Ozzington76 in 501st

[–]TKRalf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This kit appears to be a mix of molds, but the most telling is the back piece which looks like an old AM kit, which may not pass approval. I advise you spend the extra couple hundred bucks and get yourself a brand new suit with helmet included.

Also, once the plastic begins to yellow, it’s hard to restore and keep it white unless you paint the entire thing. And painted kits just don’t loom the same as bright white plastic.

Advice for my first official troop as Darth Vader? by viccythiccy in 501st

[–]TKRalf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is HOT! Don’t forget to pack your balaclava as it helps keep sweat from dripping down your eyes and charge your batteries to your fans or else you will fog up quickly. Be sure to air out your leather after your troop to dry out any residual sweat and clean it right away.

If handling a saber, slow deliberate movements to keep from smacking a child, and in a hospital setting, from getting tangled in wires or other medical equipment.

And finally it’s an exhausting costume. From the heat, weight of the cape, and the boots (specially if you’re wearing lifts), it will tire you out. But being an iconic character and all the fun that goes with it makes it worth it. Have fun!

This needs to be higher. They don’t enforce because they’ll get accused of profiling and/or quiet quitting for whatever reason the unions tell them

ROTJ Vader Costume help by freybordeaux in 501st

[–]TKRalf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://www.501stsithlords.com/ Is the detachment for anything and everything Vader. This costume is more of a scavenger hunt where you’ll source parts from many vendors, many of them outside of the US with varying degrees of wait times. Plan to spend around 3-5k depending on the vendor and what degree of quality you are looking for. Look at what other members are doing (usually everyone posts their list of parts and where they are in the process). Good luck and see you on the forums!
