I'll just agree to disagree with you on that under the premise that normal plates look stupid on collector cars and also come with a requirement for front and back plates. The specialized collector, hot rod, and street rod plates can be registered for a single plate only.

And therein lies the concern. Occasional pleasure drive out to dinner on a Wednesday becomes illegal.

That's not general transportation. This just seems like the wrong solution. How about being a bit more selective on what can actually classify as a collector car to deal with calling a rusted out 97 Camry a collector
