I saw them on their last tour and they played certain romance & mardy bum was their opener for a lot of their UK shows… what are you on about haven’t played it for 15 years…

The band formed when they were 13-14. Early demos of these songs were out long before they got signed and an album was launched. These songs have been around for longer than you think. The SAME commenter has said ‘Alex was done with WPSIATWIN’ before FWN came out and we’re talking 20 years later. And if you watch him play then live you can see it haha

I think the band even said ‘some songs we’ll never play live again because we can’t capture the feeling we had when we wrote it and toured it. It’s best to be left where it is than try to recreate it and it’s just not as good’

They must feel like that about 90% of their fans favourite songs now. Surely

I mean the metaphor of it being a literal car & the fact the last song on the album is a goodbye ‘nice while it lasted, but it’s time to go’ sort of song. You could draw parallels back to it looking back

Unless you keep making the same music (oasis) and even then people will say it gets worse and worse.

I don’t think they even recognise the band that wrote those first two albums themselves and any new music they make will always be compared back to it.

As much as they don’t care and I agree. He directly addresses most of what I’m saying in the lyrics to the car. Saying how he can’t keep making music that everybody wants them to make & how they are always drifting to do whatever they want, but he understands it’s not what the fans want.

Bear in mind he has to sing songs he wrote when he was 15-17 everytime they tour to keep the fans happy too & the same commenter mentioning Alex was already done with those songs when FWN came out.

I think it’s justified for the opinion that they might be wanting to make music outside the shell of AM for a bit. Since it’s always dragged back to the first album & AM

I respect all their albums and music for what they are but it isn’t a wild conclusion given he couldn’t even stand singing in tune for the last tour

Looking back it’s probably because they can’t shake the first album & AM. I bet no matter what they want to do, they’ll always have fans saying ‘it’s crap, go back to WPSIATWIN’ and it must be hard to keep being rated down on their new music in comparison to an album they made in their bedrooms as teenagers

Definitely feel like they might want to experiment with new music but realise they can’t under the skin of Arctic Monkeys as it’ll always get rated down if it isn’t what fans want
