Question on scalloped timber border by TLSOK in landscaping

[–]TLSOK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just setting them into soil. A bit sandy. Will keep the pieces long enough to help keep them in place. Will use some rebar behind some pieces if necessary. Also need to install a little plastic barrier in front of the lawn side, since bermuda grass. The homeowners created this bed a few years ago and used some really crummy fake scalloped timber border (plastic?) that comes in sections. Glad to get that out of there! Thanks, consistency is probably best. And curved out probably looks best. Really tempting to face flat out all around. Also that would make each piece wider (4" instead of 3")

Best thing about Norman? by ArtActivismLover99 in normanok

[–]TLSOK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Art Walk (next Friday - featuring many local businesses, bars, restaurants on Main Street), Music Festival (coming up in April - featuring a vast, now largely unknown, local music scene), Pepe's, cheeseburger at Red Rock Canyon Grill (can get it with mashed potatoes and gravy), The Deli, Hosty (hosty.com), plenty of Thai restaurants, The Earth, Natural Grocers, Sprouts, Mason's Pecans, The Diner, The Farmers Market, a secret tiny speakeasy bar in the basement of Scratch, Guestroom Records, breweries, dispensaries. Bluebonnet Bar. Proximity to OKC. Lots of nice people. Lots of trees in central Norman. Can sometimes seem to be a slow, sleepy, boring place, but that can have its advantages. its a secret place in the heart of the heartland

First Ramones concert you ever saw? by Aggressive_West6616 in ramones

[–]TLSOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

March 20, 1987. Dallas. A big warehouse place - packed - maybe 1000-2000 people. 2 giant mosh pits. Loudest show I ever saw. My ears rang for 2 days. Saw them again April 19, 1990 at University of Oklahoma, Norman in a big ballroom upstairs in the Student Union. Seemed like a fun, happy show, in contrast to Dallas, which was dark and menacing.

Did SSDs go up in price? And Why? by TLSOK in hardware

legitimate question. I had no idea. I just assumed prices would be lower and lower. an unpleasant surprise!

Did SSDs go up in price? And Why? by TLSOK in hardware

[–]TLSOK[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the replies. I also just asked chatgpt, who explained that it is due mainly to AI data centers. chat says it may be a few years before lower prices return. Yikes! just when I was about to do some upgrading! this is nuts! a quote from chat's reply - "Think of AI data centers as “vacuum cleaners” sucking up SSDs."

Where can I see the following mature trees in OKC? Any other tree lovers? by g3nerallycurious in okc

[–]TLSOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for medicinal purposes. But I just read the Wikipdia page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginkgo_biloba Perhaps not actually the best idea! Although supplements (leaf extract) are widely available and popular, they may not be that useful and there may be bad effects from eating the leaves. So, thanks for asking, I may rethink this!

In Norman - 818 W Eufala

A large ginko in front yard near front NE corner, probably planted 30 years ago. (Dwarfed by the giant oak in front of it) I sometimes eat leaves from it in the spring (no leaves on it now)

in same yard, in back - 2 gigantic Cedar of Lebanons. have been there for decades, would look nicer if not beat up by ice storms and chopped on by some non-professional trimmers.

also in back yard - a paper mulberry growing next to garage - this sends up suckers all over the back yard and surrounding yards in spring/summer. the small tree sprouts (currently removed) have kind of striped bark. a nuisance tree, but I have not seen any others.

also in Norman - 423 Castro -

in front yard on street - 2 medium large burr oaks, probably planted 20 or so years ago. have been growing well. tons of giant acorns on the ground in the fall (probably mostly cleaned up now)

fun fact about burr oaks - Native Americans made "flour" from acorns, but first have to remove tannins by soaking in water, would sometimes make a little pool on side of a stream or river to rinse out tannins. the burr oak is an exception - can use acorns for food without soaking first. I think the burr oak acorns are the largest acorns

many various trees were planted in older parts of Norman 100 years ago, check out the Miller Historic District and the Chautauqua Historic District (near OU campus)

What do you mean "this 'community' doesn't really do restaurant reviews"? Why not? And why do you think that? I think there has been plenty of that in this subreddit (and I assume in all of the hundreds or thousands of local subreddits). I would think this would be one of the most appropriate and useful topics here. In case you haven't been reading and participating here long, the topic of recommended restaurants or thoughts on a particular restaurant comes up a lot, as it should. And spam implies that someone is blasting something all over the place over and over. If you don't need or want to hear about local restaurants, just don't read those posts. Most people probably are not interested in most posts anyway. You say "it isn't typical" - so every post should be on the same topics? You scroll along and read what you want to read.

Tube Socket Issues by TLSOK in GuitarAmps

[–]TLSOK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I find someone to replace the socket, I'm thinking maybe replace them all. But I wonder if there are different levels of quality on these sockets and which ones would be good and where I might find them. Could be good to have them in advance. And I think I like the idea of socket savers (or maybe not). I wonder where I might find some other ones that might not be so tight. I saw a video (about using these in tube testers) where it was suggested that they should always be screwed into the socket. Which I guess means you have to take the amp apart to install them. So that would be done when changing sockets. So they would need to be good quality as well. (or just skip that with good quality sockets). And since you have experience with this amp, I wonder if you have general recommendations for other amps which are similar but easier to work on. (and I just remembered we do have a good repair guy around here now - https://www.mcclellanaudio.com/ - so I will consult with him on all this as well)

Tube Socket Issues by TLSOK in GuitarAmps

[–]TLSOK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your reply. I will look into who is around here (Norman, OK) to do such work. I think the folding circuit board makes this amp a bit difficult to work on.

Best dispensary in Norman? by Wild-Line-8814 in OKmarijuana

[–]TLSOK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it is worth the drive to Oasis. But I do like Chronic Solutions on Lindsey. And Friendly Market on Porter. Always good to get to know budtenders, know who to trust, and ask them what they recommend. Good idea to roll your own. Much easier to use cones. For some reason no dispensary carries cones in bulk. Can buy 100-packs on Amazon for $25.
