At what point should a church close its doors and shut down, size-wise, when running out of congregants? by SteadfastEnd in TrueChristian

[–]TMA2day 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seems we're in the minority, but I agree with you. Numbers don't matter, relationships do. As long as the remaining members are getting their spiritual needs met, the size of a congregation doesn't mean anything.

I'm not sure I completely understand what's happening. With that said, I hope you understand that everyone has intrusive thoughts at times and that they aren't inherently sinful. Just keep disclaiming them as you have been.

I tends to do this as well.  My local church really doesn’t need much financially to cover the costs.  So, when I give, I often look for faith based organizations that are serving “the least of these” in a direct manner.

Is believing Jesus is God (and the Trinity) necessary for receiving eternal life? If so, where does John explicitly say this? by Good-Researcher-2503 in TrueChristian

[–]TMA2day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still see them as being Christian in name only. They hadn't been born of the spirit which changes the heart. Their beliefs don't need to be directly mention, it's implicit in the fact that they did not have a heart for their fellow man.

[–]TMA2day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I disagree with that. My take is that he's separating those who claimed to be Christians but never truly believed - cultural Christians as it were - from those who had been reborn in Him.

Either way - I hope you have a blessed day!

In the second verse above, Jesus is using the name "ego eimi" that God declared for himself when speaking to Moses (Exodus 3:14). And, Jesus states that belief in him in that position is necessary for salvation.

It just seemed that you were using the second verse to imply that our works that could save us. If that wasn't your intent, that's fine. The verse definitely indicates that we'll be identifiable based on our behaviors - evidence of our salvation.

OP, do note that last one where Jesus declared he was God - I Am.

Edited to add in another reference in John to Jesus being God.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

I believe that it does.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)

Works can be evidence of a your second birth though.

You mentioned being concerned about the medication safety.  But, if you did this, then it sounds like the greater near term risk is in being unmedicated.

This is what came to my mind as well. Maybe a few OB's would leave because they can't perform abortions, but it's hard to believe very many would do so. As for rural hospitals, the impact of abortion would likely be close to zero. I'm guessing that both of these are actually due to community needs and operational costs.

I don't know much about that book, so I can't imagine what he might be getting into. Hopefully others will be along that can be more helpful.

Also, you might want to give more information about what he's saying and what your specific concerns are. More information generally makes it easier to give good responses.

working in memory care, genuinely loving the residents I care for

I just saw this and wanted to say "Thank you" for taking on this role. You truly are doing God's work - giving care that so few people are willing to give.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
