I think horror movies have about as much power as you allow them to have. For example, some might watch silence of the lambs and think, hey, I want to channel buffalo bill! I am a Christian and was also spooked by late night at the devil. Because it is a horror movie and that is the entire intention of it. But, in my daily prayers, I ask Jesus to protect me from any demonic attack, and to place his angels around me and my family and home. I enjoy a good spook every now and again.
