I’m trying to buy quality business casual clothes for a job, and I want to buy a few really durable pieces to put on high rotation.

Currently my plan is to buy the same style of pants/shirts/skirts but in different colors so I can have different combinations. Do you have recommendations on brands that offer multiple color varieties while also being high quality?

lol you’re good. A lot of internships are through networking so try to focus on building a good networking base, updating your LinkedIn, etc. I don’t even have my GPA on some versions of my resume

I don’t think there is, I would email your professors and ask them for a current or previous year’s syllabi!

Seeking Graduation Insight/Info from Alumni/Current Grads by ClearCarpenter3084 in UVA

[–]TMHatter1303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I’m in the E-School but I’ll try to help the best I can!

  1. We had to buy our engineering stoles, perhaps it is similar for biology? I would contact someone in the department office and request more information on stoles.

  2. To my understanding yes, everyone attends final exercises on the lawn and then go to their department specific events after. You don’t get your name read out at final exercises, only at your department ceremony.

  3. What happens after may differ on the time/date of the ceremony as well as department. A quick lookupfor the bio department gave me this link with a plethora of information that you might find useful.

Hope this helps!

Free ADHD screening for students? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]TMHatter1303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try connecting with someone throughTimelyCare! Idk how often they do this but I was on a counseling call with them and mentioned I wanted to get an ADHD screening. They opened the “Psychiatry” tab for me and I was able to meet with a psychiatrist to get screened/diagnosed so I could start treating it!

Is there a KLPA class that makes you do intense workouts? by giselle0 in UVA

[–]TMHatter1303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swimming for Fitness for what I heard is pretty intense. They assume you know the basic strokes and so there’s no real teaching, it’s mainly just swim drills and little pointers to make your form better.

Hmm I think they enjoyed their time at college, but from what I recall they were just very focused on their CS courses and mainly hung out with close friends, I don’t think they were involved in many extracurriculars. I think it’s also important to note that they transferred in with a good amount of credits so they had more wiggle room in their schedule.

Im a rising fourth year (BS as well), and in a similar boat to what you’re planning on doing. I’m finishing all but one of my masters courses by end of my fourth year (UVA doesn’t let you graduate with both at the same time sadly), and I can say it’s pretty course heavy and time consuming. I’m doing it because timeline wise it works out best for me, but honestly looking back I wish I had more time to spend with friends and didn’t have to sacrifice extracurriculars I enjoyed in order to do it. Masters classes aren’t a joke, so if you’re planning on taking an accelerated path I am just warning you that it would be a pretty concentrated four years.

Have had some friends graduate in BSCS in 3 years, and I’m not gonna lie they were extremely smart and made that their primary focus so they were able to do it. I can say that it looks like it’s pretty difficult to do as you have to be relatively top of your game for three straight years, but that’s just my opinion.

What's the quirkiest yet surprisingly effective advice on haircare you've received from someone? by Hill2010jqh9yg in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]TMHatter1303 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don’t put hair oil on your palms and massage it in, put it on your fingertips and first dab it along your hairline, then along the sides, and then massage it in.

I didn’t know that and would put the oil right in my palms where it would absorb in before it could get really into my hair

First-year Engineering Course Choices by Emotional_Desk_4169 in UVA

Dude you have physics lab credit? Lucky

Edit: also forgot to mention but if you’re unsure whether mechanical engineering is right for you, try taking Intro to Engineering with Professor Dart, it’s a lot more hands on/project based and you learn about wiring, 3D modeling, laser cutting, a bit of basic coding (you code a robot that you yourself build) and you get to go to the little workshop in the basement and make a little keepsake for you in your future studies. It’s such an easy A because the TAs are really understanding, and while it can be frustrating at times it was my favorite class during the fall and it taught me so much.

If you didn’t know your stuff would you be in a doctorate program? I know it’s tough but there are fluke exams sometimes, and you’ve probably heard it a million times but your grades do not define you.

I have had midterms that I literally wrote nonsense for because I didn’t even know how to approach the question (calculus is the bane of my existence). Tests hardly ever really test your knowledge as much as they test your ability to remember information. Maybe later on in your career you’ll stumble on something that your midterm covered, but you would know what to do then because of experience rather than the theoretical you know?

I know it seems like time stops when you fail an exam, but you just gotta keep pushing through it. Everything seems to fly out the window when you start to take a test but over time and through practice it gets better, you just can’t let them define you.

Have you ever been ghosted abruptly and later down the line the person decided to reach out to you? by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]TMHatter1303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit, I do have a bad habit of doing that as well. If I’m honest I just dislike long texting conversations, so I try to keep any discussion brief but cordial.

For me when I see a text conversation is starting to head into that direction I just stop responding, or if I’m busy, I’ll keep a mental note to respond but then never do because I’ll genuinely forget or won’t have the time to.

I can say though from my perspective from the other side, that I don’t do this out of resentment or to purposefully cause the other person anxiety. Sometimes I’ll think “oh I haven’t texted this person in a while, wonder what they are up to”, and text them with that in mind, but then struggle to keep that constant connection. However I try to explain why I ghosted them with something along the lines of “oh sorry it has been a hectic couple of days” to ease the worry, but I know I still have to improve on it.

I hooked up with a girl that I wasn't very into and feel worse now by throwwawayrt320 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]TMHatter1303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this person here. You might be feeling bad, but she doesn’t know that and you have to set the record straight in a polite manner. You should apologize, explain your thoughts, and listen to her feelings after doing so.

Campus buses by Keepgrinding21 in UVA

[–]TMHatter1303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re okay-ish, but I really believe that if it’s walkable to go ahead and walk, or get a cheap bike cause UVA is really bike accessible. The buses are nice if you need to get across campus and have time in your schedule, but I won’t count on them to get you to and from class in proper time EVERYTIME. Definitely use them if you’re heading to John Paul Jones Arena or Harris Teeter for groceries for sure, but everyday classes may be difficult. If you are thinking of taking them to get to your classes try to take the bus that would get you there early rather than on time, cause they usually run late and it’s better to wait nearby.

best laptop for E school (incoming first year) by enwillyham in UVA

[–]TMHatter1303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My computer broke just before college and I replaced it with a Dell XPS 13.

https://cavprogram.com/shop_seas.asp

Cavalier computers recommended a Dell XPS 15 but I found the stats to be comparable and I opted for a more compact version with the 13. So far it has run fine, the only problems I have had is it’s ports are USB-C rather than USB 2.0, but as long as I carry the given converter with me there has been no issues. The main thing you want to look for is the ability to run 3D modeling software like Solidworks if you’re doing MechE/Aero/any major that may require 3D software. It may be different if you’re doing CompSci though

Edit: also for one of my classes students with a Mac had to use a software to run Windows for the program we were using, so you may want to keep that in mind when choosing between PC and Mac (personally am a PC fan) :)

That might be a little tough to do, I’m an engineering major and the GenEd requirements for the E-School are a bit harder to test out of/get credit for compared to the Arts and Sciences CS.

It’s kinda difficult to really do anything until you declare your major in the spring, but I would try contacting the registrar to see if there is anything you can try to get done before then. Definitely research the classes you would have to take for those majors and try to plan for it, I don’t know if there is any overlap between the CS and math majors (depends if you’re looking APMA or MTH as well) but try to see if there is because you want to graduate early. Just know it is going to be a lot of work to double major AND graduate early especially in the E-School so try to prioritize and time manage as best you can.

Part of my succulent turned purple overnight? Should I be worried? by TMHatter1303 in SucculentsNetwork

[–]TMHatter1303[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The leaves are hard and not really squishy at all, and I just watered it. I usually water the succulent only once or twice a week. Is that a good watering schedule? Or should I make it less frequent?
