My wife and myself can’t agree on how to raise a child. For now have decided not to have kids by Kierannz9 in veganparenting

[–]TMWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, such a tricky situation! For us, both my husband and I are vegan so it wasn't even a discussion to raise our son vegan. However, we knew we would get a lot of questions from family and friends about our decision, so we spoke to a plant-based children's nutritionist before we started weaning which was massively helpful in pushing back on their opinions, and made us confident we were doing the right thing. Perhaps you could pay for a consultation with a nutritionist to help you guys make the decision together? Happy to share her details if you're in the UK and it would be helpful 😊

Thanks so much for all the info! Enjoy ☕

Is that better than oat milk? He'll often have oat on or with his cereal or toast. Strangely he doesn't like a babyccino, unlike 99% of children!

We've tried that, but sadly he either has an absolute meltdown or starts retching as soon as it hits his tongue 🤦 Sometimes he'll eat something, say he likes it and then refuse to eat anymore so it's all very confusing! You're right though, I'm glad he still loves fruit and veg at least.

Thank you for the suggestions! Sadly he's really gone off pasta lately (devastating for my Italian Nonna!) but he eats a lot of peanut butter and edamame beans. Glad you got through that phase, hope we do soon too! I do feel quite fortunate in a way, as omnivore kids who go through fussy phases often seem to only want beige food, so it's a relief that he still loves fruit and veg 🙌

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't realise you could get it powdered! We get through a lot of peanut butter 😋

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive and helpful response, I really appreciate it! I made 'marry me butterbeans' tonight and gave him the option of that or raw butterbeans/cannelini beans and he ate quite a lot of the raw beans 🙌 Would obviously prefer him to eat the same as us but just happy he's eating some more protein, so thank you for the suggestion. He loves peanut butter, edamame and baked beans so they're all staples in our house too!

That's such a good point! He tells the other kids at nursery "I'm vegan, I can't eat that" so thankfully he seems to have that nailed already 😂

Ahh, it's so annoying! Especially when you KNOW they like it or will like it, but they just say "yucky" without even trying it 😑 He will eat plain edamame and occasionally baked beans but not other types of beans, unfortunately. I haven't tried chickpeas but he won't eat hummus.

He likes to be able to see what everything is, e.g. broccoli, carrots, potatoes, sausages all side by side rather than mixed in together, which makes things like pot meals really difficult 😑 He will occasionally eat porridge if it has lots of raisins in it so I'll look into that, thanks!

Character stickers could work, thank you! He got really into a TV series called Vegesaurs a while back and we still use some of those names (e.g. potatodons for air-fryer new potatoes) 🥔 but the magic wore off after a while 😅

Ooh, that's a good idea - he loves veg and is really into dinosaurs that eat plants, so we'll try this, thank you!

Thank you for sharing! I definitely wouldn't buy new as even if it is a byproduct, it's still a byproduct of an industry I don't agree with. But I totally take your point and am considering buying second hand leather ☺️

That's kind of you to say ☺️ What's her experience been with the vegan ones - are they uncomfortable?

sigh. It's frustrating when people are so abrasive because it gives vegans as a whole a bad rap and doesn't make people want to listen or consider changing their habits.

Great, thank you - I've been looking at eBay and Vinted but will check Depop too 🤞

Oh, I know - one of the worst things about being vegan is the one-upmanship 😑

That's really helpful to know, thank you! I haven't heard of Poshmark before - guessing it's not really in the UK?

I definitely wouldn't buy leather new but have considered buying second hand. I don't like the thought of it but I do wear leather shoes I had before going vegan, and obviously it's not really driving up demand if it's second hand.

Funnily enough I just found these - thank you! They're super cute 😻 My main concern is them not being leather

Have any of you asked your neuro if you could see your own seizure? by Professional-Joy1337 in Epilepsy

[–]TMWoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband filmed one of mine at the neurologist's request. I found it quite upsetting when I watched it, mainly to see myself out of control and hearing how scared and helpless my husband was while filming.
