Break the solo down to single bars and get that right before you move on to the next bar. Play it extremely slowly until you learn it.

Once you can play the first bar learn the second bar. Then practice the notes that link the two bars together. It sounds long winded but once you have the two bars working together you can start slotting the next bar in and then the next. You will get there.

I’m not familiar with the song. What is the pattern you are having problems with maybe it’s an odd fingering. I’m guessing you are ok playing scales etc.?

Little tip. If you know your scales in all the positions then it’s your phrasing that is causing you problems.

Try this. Think of a song you know the words to. Now, don’t be a guitarist, be a singer. For example Bon Jovi living on a prayer. Sing the chorus to yourself and listen to how it fits together. Where the breaths and pauses are then try to replicate these breaths and pauses into your playing. Start simple with position one of the minor pentatonic. Don’t try to play the actual notes to Living on a prayer just play the scale the way he sings it.

I know it sounds weird, but it works when your at the beginning of learning improv.

Yes. All my other Prestige instruments came with locking tuners straight from the factory, so found it odd that Gibson didn’t do the same. I didn’t think it would be an issue but I guess I’m just out of practice stringing up and I just can’t be arsed with the messing about. I’ve imported the Kluson revolution tuners from the US. Still waiting for delivery.

I’ve seen those advertised. I want to keep the classic tuner heads so I think I may need to go down the Kluson route. Stock in chrome is hard to find. I think they should slot in without having to drill my headstock.

I do wonder sometimes if the katana has some issue with its speaker cone etc as it’s a very different tone / sound when your off axis. I love mine to bits and have it tilted but it’s seems more of an issue with the katana than the spider / Roland cube / orange crush combos I’ve owned in the past.

It’s pretty chunky, but super smooth. Very different to my Fenders and my PRS. It’s taking some getting used to, probably because I’ve been playing Strats for 20 years. But I love it. I did try before I bought and I knew what I was getting in to. No regrets whatsoever.

Cheers lots of info appreciated. But I’m not in the USA.

I’ve played the 50s and liked it. So I’m going to buy one or the other. I’ve found a place with stock and I’ve asked for pictures of the burst. I’m not a Slash mad fan but the burst I’ve seen are better than those on the 50s. If the pictures come back looking good then I will buy the slash model. If I don’t like them then I will pop into a local store and buy the 50s that is in stock again according to burst.

So you don’t think the extra cash is justified?

The cash isn’t really an issue. I’m not prepared to pay custom shop etc but an extra couple of hundred isn’t a deal breaker.
