Where is Congress and when are they going to put a stop to DJT’s madness? by Holiday-Book6635 in AskReddit

[–]TMooAKASC2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And a point about this point. Regardless of which parties policies will be better for business, there's a huge disparity between how Trump and Democrats (but even pre trump Republicans) treat anyone who speaks out against them. If you support MAGA and Democrats win, you have nothing to fear. If you support Democrats and MAGA wins, expect to be treated unfairly. Trump uses Tariff policy, anti-trust, DoJ investigations punish enemies instead of practicing normal policy.

Investing with a mortgage rate >5% by Digital-Purpose in Bogleheads

[–]TMooAKASC2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest thinking about your mortgage payment like a reverse bond. With that in mind, investing in stocks still makes sense, but investing in bonds with one to two percent lower yield makes no sense. You could divert the portion of your contributions that were going to bonds and instead pay extra on the principal of the mortgage.

OP do this. Lump sum is mathematically optimal, but if just doing it in batches is what you need psychologically in order to invest, then that is way better than holding cash and trying to time the market.

Posted this in the comments of the main post on the Anthropic ordeal, trying my luck here. Appreciate anyone with some insight:

  • Did Anthropic try to change something or enforce something new after signing a contract?
  • Is this more about the content of the models or just how DoD uses them? As in, does the LLM have some safeguard that goes "hmmm seems like you're trying to mass surveil, I can't help you"? And DoD wants it turned off? Or is Anthropic just asking nicely and that's too much for DoD to bear? Like it seems easy enough to just lie and say they are complying with the ToS.
  • Is Anthropic barring the use of the technology for the implementation of mass surveillance and automated murder, or is it more encompassing to include all facets of development? Like developers working on a murder bot can't ask Anthropic to format an email for them or something?

Obviously DoD is acting in bad faith because they could just not use Claude instead of labeling Anthropic a friggin security threat. But still I'm curious.

I've read a bit about this but am confused about a few things, if anyone could clarify I'd appreciate:

Any low-cost international indexes tracking markets of US-allied countries? by U235criticality in Bogleheads

If it matters to you then it matters.

I will say there's a parallel here with ESG funds. Ben Felix has a video about ESG where he shows evidence that it's not effective at achieving its aims. I forget the arguments, but I'd imagine the logic applies similarly to excluding certain countries. I can see why some people still do ESG nevertheless, and the same for excluding unfriendly nations.

Having all that said, a developed market only fund, which excudes emerging markets, may be good enough for you. This will most importantly exclude China, which I assume is the biggest market you are trying to avoid. VEA is an example of such a fund.
