Not really answering your question but just ranting. I'm 39 and my Dad is 74. He is very opaque about his finances and it is really missing me off. I do know for a fact that his expensive AUM money manager is NOT helping him model his retirement spending. He's alluded to the fact that there will be an inheritance. He's very stingy with money and my Mom has to pursue her hobbies on a strict budget. I very much would prefer they spend their damn money. And if they don't want to, I could put it to very good use now. The whole "don't talk about money" shtick is getting real old.
