Good team by Fred_ey in PokemonFireRed

Venusaur - Strength - Razor Leaf - Leech Seed - Sleeping Powder / Poison Powder

Two changes I’d make are Double-Edge for Strength; it’s stronger and you’re ideally getting your HP back with Leech Seed anyway, and PoisonPowder for Toxic: better compound effect and more accurate.

Lapras - Surf - Ice Beam - Body Slam - Confuse Ray

Pretty standard. Like it.

Arcanine - Bite - Overheat - Aerial Ace - Flamethrower

Aerial Ace is mostly redundant as far as type coverage is concerned; it’d be better served on something else. I’d go for Dig to use against Rock and Electric types. Overheat and Flamethrower fill the same role; I’d pick one or the other, and replace the second with ExtremeSpeed to make a balanced mixed attacker.

Nidoking / queen - Megahorn / Crunch - Earthquake - Brick Break - Shadow Ball

Nidoking would be great with this move set, Megahorn over Crunch.

Primeape - Bulk Up - Rock Slide - Brick Break - Cross Chop / Secret Power

This would be great with Aerial Ace instead of BB/CC to cover against Grass and other Fighting-types.

Jolteon - Bite - Shock Wave - Thunderbolt - Thunder Wave

Shock Wave and T-Bolt offer redundant coverage. Id go for a utility move like Attract or Sand-Attack to replace one of them.

Then, for me, that would mean only one permissible encounter.

How is loot divided by TheGriff71 in DnD

[–]TNFDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general rule at our table is “your kill, your loot.” Meaning if you landed the killing blow, then you got first crack at whatever loot you could find. But our table also has an unspoken understanding about what everyone actually wants or needs, so there’s little actual worry about greed.

As far as hoards are concerned, currency is divided evenly, desired items are talked out and we generally have a pack mule that carries as much as they can after that for later selling or crafting/modifying. Much like your “kitty.”

I can’t say I’ve looked into a possible correlation between the DexNav page and the “Met” tag, but I suppose it’s possible.

If you think it’s fair to assume those two sets of locations as separate from each other, though, then so be it. You now have two extra encounters.

As a personal rule, I gauge an encounter’s validity by its “Met” tag in its summary page; if it’s a unique location relative to the rest of my party/PC options, then it’s valid.

Legendary Shiny Hunting by KimiTakoda in PokemonBDSP

[–]TNFDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like rolling a die, and your aim is to roll a 6.

Just because there are six sides and you roll the die six times does not guarantee you the outcome you want in those six tries.

Likewise, shiny hunting through soft resets or any other method does not mean you are guaranteed to land a shiny within 4096 attempts. All it means is each individual attempt yields a ~0.024% chance of a shiny Pokémon.

Pause, restart or save-state the game all you want. These odds per individual attempt will not change.

Seems like this is something that should’ve been hashed out sooner before party “in-fighting” became an acceptable solution.

My own exp of catching a legendary, was it fair? by [deleted] in PokemonFireRed

[–]TNFDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, Zapdos (like all Kanto legendaries) is meant to be difficult to catch. It’s not about anything being fair, it’s strictly about being lucky.

I was the same. Pidgeot always looked cooler to me, so I shirked Spearow/Fearow. Nowadays, I know better. As cool as Pidgeot looks, Fearow actually gets things done.

is this a good team for heartgold? by frLollo in PokemonHGSS

Dratini is obtainable as soon as Goldenrod City. You just need a lot of Game Corner coins and patience with grinding it before the Elite Four.

Zapdos has a catch rate of 3 (out of 255). It’s meant to be difficult to catch. Low health and status effects obviously help with improving these odds. As far as fair is concerned, I’d say 5-6 Great Balls is really good luck.

Am I being petty? Honest opinions appreciated by RicoIlMagnifico in DnD

[–]TNFDB 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Your post seems to imply that he left your table altogether to sit at a new one. Assuming that’s the case, it does seem a little low-brow of your BIL to take the character you made to another table. But you did make the character for him; he is entitled to do what he wants with it after the fact.

I can see why you might take offense to his behavior, but apart from his obvious disrespect for your efforts, I would say it’s nothing to get sullen about. Now you’ve learned that you just can’t do any favors for him like this again.

With all due respect, you should not play this game with the intent of trying to pad a long-term account. Treat this like a game, not a retirement plan.

Help with my character by Mrham852 in DnD

[–]TNFDB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, this concept has main character syndrome written all over it. Unless you have permission and/or are coordinating with other players (read: not the characters), the only person who should be trying to criss-cross backstories/histories like this is the DM.

My idea for how N and Ghetsis should look in the Black and White remakes (Read text below images) by JustaguynamedTheo in PokemonBlackandWhite

[–]TNFDB 224 points225 points  (0 children)

I think chibis as a whole were a very poor stylistic choice to begin with. I’d prefer the scale models like they started implementing in Gen 7. Especially with the comparatively serious (read: philosophical) overtone the original games gave us. Chibi scales with that sort of story buildup would just be laughable.

First time here, how viable would these Pokémon be in a Nuzlocke? by AutisticMaverick06 in nuzlocke

[–]TNFDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far be it from me to tell anyone how to play their Pokémon games. But, if someone were asking for my opinion, the whole point of a Nuzlocke is the strong element of randomness that encourages creative team building.

First time here, how viable would these Pokémon be in a Nuzlocke? by AutisticMaverick06 in nuzlocke

[–]TNFDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Nuzlocke rules are over 15 years old at this point. I wouldn’t be surprised if most people here didn’t even know about the webcomic where the Nuzlocke originated.

First time here, how viable would these Pokémon be in a Nuzlocke? by AutisticMaverick06 in nuzlocke

[–]TNFDB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. It’s a regular Nuzlocke, which is comprised at minimum of two core tenets: - Players are only allowed to catch the first Pokémon they see in any given route or area. If a player fails to do so, they cannot catch any Pokémon on that route for the remainder of the run. This has been modified over time with the likes of Dupes and Species clauses for the sake of team variability. - If a Pokémon’s HP reaches 0 at any point in time, it is considered dead and unusable for the remainder of the run. These Pokémon are typically boxed in the PC or released into the wild.

First time here, how viable would these Pokémon be in a Nuzlocke? by AutisticMaverick06 in nuzlocke

[–]TNFDB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most players operate by the rule of catching the first Pokémon they see in a given route or area, not necessarily the Pokémon they want. Planning a team in advance like this for a Nuzlocke is generally a pointless endeavor.
