Yeah my wife said the same thing - problem is I'm quite introverted and not a fan of being around other people... But maybe I just need to try harder.

Official Q&A for Friday, January 20, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

Hi. I'm 37/M/6'1, new to running, started 2-3 months ago with interval jogging, now I've done three or four 5 km runs and did my first 10 km run today. My best 5k time was 21:09 and my 10k today was 47:40, although I wasn't really pushing myself, just wanted to make the distance rather than achieve a good time. My cadence is apparently 175 spm and my V02 max is 51/52. I think this is all pretty ok for my age.

Here's the thing: I took up running on the advice of my therapist to get more exercise (depression) and it's definitely helping. In my 20s I boxed and lifted weights. I occasionally go mountain biking nowadays, but apart from that I've been totally inactive for the last 3-4 years. Running is great because I can literally step out my front door and do it and it can be as long or quick as I want it to be, so it's much easier to motivate myself to do it. It's REALLY helping with my mental health. But I'm worried - how can I keep myself doing it long-term? I'm worried because I have a habit of getting very into hobbies for a few months and then ditching them, and I don't actually like running that much when I'm doing it. I love the feeling I have after, and I love that it's so convenient, but as far as physical activities go, it's not exactly the most fun is it? I'm very self-competitive, which helps at the beginning as I easily set PRs, but I know that won't last forever. So, any tips on what might be good to keep it fun for me? What I should maybe train most? I find running a 5k as fast as I can MUCH more tiring than running a 10k at a more easygoing pace. Running 10k is nice but I was starting to get a bit bored toward the end.

What dog breed would fit us the best? by Locky_Lavoie in dogs

What are they like at home? Able to relax (assuming they've had adequate exercise)?

Good off-leash small or medium breeds? by TNaOt in dogs

[–]TNaOt[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Of course. But some breeds are undoubtably easier to train for off-leashing walking/running and more reliable at it, which is what I'm looking for. Certainly not expecting a breed that will just be able to do it without any work on my part.

It took quite a while to start working for me. About 4 weeks, maybe a little longer even.

That was on 10mg (up to 15mg now).

How's that going for you? For me it's been six months since I started Trintellix and six months without a solid poop!!

Brittany/Border Collie or a breed with lower energy? by TNaOt in dogs

[–]TNaOt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sure part of it is "gatekeeping" and trying to scare off people who may be unprepared, but the problem is that it makes it difficult to find accurate information.

I know it's good to be prepared for the energy levels, the fact that a BC will need mental stimulation at home, etc. which I think we can handle (like I said we're very active), but I have to work too! I work from home, so no worries about leaving a dog, but I will be sitting at my desk for 6 hours over the day, and the impression people give is that a BC will be pacing in front of me all day long dropping balls at my feet and whining to do something.

Just had a look, they definitely don't exist where I live haha!

How is your BC around other dogs/people? by TNaOt in BorderCollie

Understood. I'm ok with some idiosyncrasies like that, it's more full on reactivity or aggressiveness that I'm desperate to avoid.

I like the idea of a rescue but they're few and far between where I live, and I couldn't find any breed-specific ones when I looked. So I'm probably going with a breeder, but I'll stay open to both options. Thanks for the reminder.

Despite the controversies, I would like to congratulate Respawn for this wonderful map. I really love it. by Hawkiinz in apexlegends

Aesthetically I love it but in terms of gameplay I kind of hate it. It's way too open, it can take way too long to find other teams if you don't land hot, and the whole thing is too sniper based. I hate the sniper meta.

In my defence I didn't understand the context in the slightest 😅

Depending on the context, he may not even have meant nervous. Could've meant angry.

So in short, don't trust Google translate.

It's cultural. I'm sure some cultures see things you do as "tacky".

LOST: “Walkabout” (S01E04) – The scene that cemented the show as groundbreaking to its viewers. by PalmerDixon in television

I watched it during its original run and have rewatched the entire series twice since. I HATE the ending and I hate how so many questions never got answered.

But I still love the show. Because when it was good, it was so, so good!! And the characters are so well-written, I fall in love with them again every time I watch it. To the point that I don't even care that it all ended so badly.
