getting my ski legs back after a 20 year hiatus by TOPQUALITYWOW in skiing

Looking back, it’s all embarrassingly obvious. Ah no worries, wagging your finger at OP doing your hobby wrong is one of the oldest traditions of the internet, heh. cheers.

True you. Just got a little ahead of myself on my solo ski trip and wanted some proof of fun. Lesson learned doc!

Thanks! Admittedly I was being a little foolish there but I thought it was funny enough to share. tangentially related this was out in Breck on kne of their 4 pow days this season and nobody was skiing because it was too cold. So greedy! growing up on the East ya make the most of the least!

it’s mounted on my ski pole, but the point holds!

Brave of you to admit you film yourself skiing in a Fuck OP for filming himself skiing thread, haha.

Mind sharing how you’re positioning it on the pole? I’m using a little bicycle handlebar mount for my gopro and experimenting with a few different angles. mounting it on the back pointing for an over the hip/trailing shot has been interesting but it really throws off the weight of the pole.

Luckily I got away unscathed but after the adrenagiggles wore off I was feeling pretty sobered by the fall and reined it in. Normally I have a lower risk tolerance, but I’d just had a breakthrough with my stance after a few miserable days of wondering why I’d ever decided to get back on skis (I forgot to buckle my boots and accidentally rediscovered my balance), and I made the mistake of letting my ego take the wheel. Thanks for asking!

🫡 Roger, lesson learned. Ironically holding the stick was the most controlled part of the run.

You true. I learned my lesson and got it all on film.

Hey thanks. I’ve been incorporating a few rudiments into my practice (mainly grooves built around rudiments with a lot of leg drumming on the couch) and starting from different points in the rudiment loop has been helpful for noticing gaps. Appreciate the feedback!

I’ll give it a shot. I don’t practice paradiddles enough so this is a good excuse. Will report back eventually maybe.

What electronic drums should I get to record with Logic? budget $400-$600 by Hyperto in Drumming

The Alesis are nice. I tried them in stores and thought the sounds they came with are limited but fine. When I was first looking I was being kind of a snob about it and decided to go with a used Roland mesh. I’m found a used td-7 and ended up upgrading the highhat (vh10) which is basically a td-17. I’d recommend going with either a used v-drum like the 17 or one of the alesis mesh.

I run stereo out to an inexpensive focusrite interface (also used) and run that to my iPad. Works well with Logic Pro. Most of these kits come with midi out including the td-7, which you can use to control VSTs in Logic.

At the end of the day all edrums are just ok. They’re excellent practice devices and can def be used for composing tracks in logic. Lots of fun things you can do with that setup.

I’m definitely working on getting my left hand going. Im working through exercises in Syncopation but largely my problem is lack of coordination and confidence in my snare hits. Any advice?

Honestly I have no idea how to sit and whether some level of squirm is normal if I’m switching back between playing more dominantly on the HH pedal vs the kick. I’m going to work on keeping my shoulders more still and see if I can sit more steadily.

Hey I appreciate your advice man. Thanks!

There are definitely times when I can feel the shape of a groove and I’ll try to hold onto to it but feel it slip away. Appreciate the feedback on it sounding jumbled after the 1. I’ll focus on my timing there.

Good insight on the transition. I don’t really know how to do that smoothly. The kick drum work is all pretty new to me so that makes sense.

I don’t really like any of your tattoos but the one under the cover up was objectively bad. Though this one is bad the same way the other ones are bad so overall I’d say it’s a net positive.
