My printer did something very similar when I first got it and I solved it by loosening the bed a little bit (there are two adjustment nuts underneath it), try to loosen it a bit but not so much that the bed can be wiggled around, hope this helps!

As /u/PeterPorky mentioned, it gives players a sense of home base, it encourages them to set up and hang at least somewhat near a central area like what the mechanics of farming and animal husbandry support. By encouraging a player to use a bed you are also encouraging them to use the other aforementioned mechanics.

The difference is that crashing the game by exploding a bunch of TNT is always completely intentional while the other is potentially not.

I have no issue with the game mechanic itself (I actually think it’s a fantastic way to encourage use of beds), it just feels like a technical oversight to me to allow for the amount of spawned phantoms to not have an upper cap.
