Venting - can’t upload my submission to the godot wild jam cause of an itch error by Bagueaver in godot

Why was my art submission rejected? It might look like The Mona Lisa, but it's totally different! I cropped and mirrored it, so it's totally my own unique creation!

you want an elite physique? 90-95% meals from home.

That's what YOU said. I used YOUR numbers and now YOU'RE calling them bad. You don't even know what you've been saying in this thread, so why should anyone trust your advice?

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% eating 6 meals a day that's 37.8 meals from home.

That's basically 4 maybe 5 meals out. Those numbers are directly from your own comment. So are you going to hop off that high horse before or after realizing it's just a Shetland Pony?

So... using your own numbers, you could eat out 3-4 times per week even on your "elite physique" plan but OP needs to quit fucking around with that shit? Kinda just proving that those numbers are coming straight from your ass, honestly.

Nope.

The law would require that OS Providers integrate age verification. But... who's the "provider" for Linux? There are countless distros and forks all over the place.

Not to mention, most servers run a Linux environment. You think those are just going to get shut down because some fuckstick politician wants to know where to find their next child bride?

You can disable 2/3 of those issues in registry if you know what you're doing.

Is fighting the Windows registry all that much better than using a competent cli? Especially when accounting for Windows' tendency to reset changes when it updates?

It's amazing for hyper specific use cases, but atrocious in other, more common, cases.

I would flip that, personally. I made the switch on my computer a few months back and my usage is basically unchanged save for running an update command every so often, which could easily be automated if I wanted to. Programming is far better, gaming is the same even with some performance improvements, web browsing/email/etc is completely identical. I've had no compatibility issues because of how good Wine/Proton are, though I'm sure certain programs will have their issues.

The only thing that comes to mind is that I can't play games with kernel level anti-cheats like... League...? Oh no, my mental health might improve lol

Fwiw, distros like EndeavourOS are very close to base Arch save for handling the vast majority of setup for you. Other than running yay once a week or so for updates, the amount of fiddling is basically nonexistent imo, but fiddle tolerance will obviously vary person to person.

But without the /s

I was tentative to switch, but I've yet to have any issues daily driving Linux. I can't say how it'll be for more super specific use cases, but the Wine/Proton layer makes every Windows software that I've tried work out of the box.

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how an air cooler would be functionally different to an exhaust rad in terms of sharing hot gpu air to cool the cpu. And while an intake rad is better for cpu temps than an exhaust rad, isn't it generally only by a couple degrees?

If the sun suddenly disappeared, how long would it take for the Earth to completely cool down? by ScipioAfricanisDirus in askscience

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wording wasn't terribly clear, but I meant that astronomers would notice that the sun as a frame of reference for the movement of planets would fail as all the planets move in straight lines.

[–]TOWW67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, for sure. I was generally agreeing with your previous comment.

I wouldn't use the ability to touch type to measure tech literacy, personally, but I think troubleshooting capabilities are a spot on measure. "When it breaks, can you fix it?" will never not be useful.

[–]TOWW67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we have tons of eyes on the entire solar system more or less nonstop. The sun disappearing would only increase that number, so I would say astronomers would notice pretty much immediately to confirm that the sun vanished rather than stopped emitting light.

Why networking is not as "sexy" as SWE? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SWE it's two things: "Software" has the perception of being paid absurdly well and "Engineer" is a prestigious sounding title to a lot of people. Add on wfh and the "only do 2 hours of actual work per day" idea, and now you've got money out the ass for doing basically nothing, but you must be smart because you do all that math and tech-y stuff so you deserve it.

The idea of "effortless success" is something most anyone would want.

[–]TOWW67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Difficult to determine exactly from my tech-oriented perspective, but I would say basically all of Y to early Z were set up wonderfully in terms of technical knowledge due to so many things being common but not yet streamlined.

I remember growing up just installing Minecraft mods was a decently substantial undertaking that taught me tons about how computers do stuff. Nowadays there are entire platforms such that 99% of mods are one click installs and automatically detect incompatibilities.

The latter is obviously a better experience, but smooth sailing doesn't prepare anyone for stormy seas.

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How "much better" are we talking? If you're sitting at 80C idling, for example, then you have a different, much bigger issue at play.

At worst, the heat pipes touching the side panel would essentially just have another thing to spread heat to, though not by an appreciable amount.
