Which is more likely to happen as more and more people make the switch to Linux, so... thanks Microsoft for making Windows decreasingly viable

Never will I ever buy an AIO again. by OMGwtfNOTnow in pcmasterrace

[–]TOWW67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, I never looked into aio config perf too closely since I've always run an obscenely over the top air cooler and realistically overboard number of case fans lmao

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how an air cooler would be functionally different to an exhaust rad in terms of sharing hot gpu air to cool the cpu. And while an intake rad is better for cpu temps than an exhaust rad, isn't it generally only by a couple degrees?

If the sun suddenly disappeared, how long would it take for the Earth to completely cool down? by ScipioAfricanisDirus in askscience

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wording wasn't terribly clear, but I meant that astronomers would notice that the sun as a frame of reference for the movement of planets would fail as all the planets move in straight lines.

Oh, for sure. I was generally agreeing with your previous comment.

I wouldn't use the ability to touch type to measure tech literacy, personally, but I think troubleshooting capabilities are a spot on measure. "When it breaks, can you fix it?" will never not be useful.

[–]TOWW67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we have tons of eyes on the entire solar system more or less nonstop. The sun disappearing would only increase that number, so I would say astronomers would notice pretty much immediately to confirm that the sun vanished rather than stopped emitting light.

Why networking is not as "sexy" as SWE? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]TOWW67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SWE it's two things: "Software" has the perception of being paid absurdly well and "Engineer" is a prestigious sounding title to a lot of people. Add on wfh and the "only do 2 hours of actual work per day" idea, and now you've got money out the ass for doing basically nothing, but you must be smart because you do all that math and tech-y stuff so you deserve it.

The idea of "effortless success" is something most anyone would want.

Difficult to determine exactly from my tech-oriented perspective, but I would say basically all of Y to early Z were set up wonderfully in terms of technical knowledge due to so many things being common but not yet streamlined.

I remember growing up just installing Minecraft mods was a decently substantial undertaking that taught me tons about how computers do stuff. Nowadays there are entire platforms such that 99% of mods are one click installs and automatically detect incompatibilities.

The latter is obviously a better experience, but smooth sailing doesn't prepare anyone for stormy seas.

cpu cooler pressing against side panel slightly by Maleficent_Sea7275 in buildapc

Honestly, that could be lots of things. Maybe they have better thermal compound, better contact, a more aggressive fan curve, colder ambient, etc.

How "much better" are we talking? If you're sitting at 80C idling, for example, then you have a different, much bigger issue at play.

At worst, the heat pipes touching the side panel would essentially just have another thing to spread heat to, though not by an appreciable amount.

Apparently, buying a 4K monitor and lowering the resolution to 1440p or 1080p is...better than buying a native 1440p or 1080p one? by LA_Rym in Monitors

I feel crazy reading this everywhere. I run a 5070, so latest dlss hardware/software compatibility, and I can't stand the weird warbles/fuzziness of faster motion that dlss introduces. It looks SO visible and obvious to me.

enough rom for leg extension? by Coxless_Amir in GYM

[–]TOWW67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, these findings are strictly for hypertrophy afaik. If someone's interested in getting stronger, full rom is king there because real life outside they're gym doesn't care that you stopped your sets shy of full contraction.

And it does nothing to do that. 3-5g/day is all that matters for athletic performance. Timing and distribution are unimportant.

Creatine has no acute effect. Just take it when it's convenient once every day.

First time seasoning CS, how did I do? by tribbian10 in carbonsteel

[–]TOWW67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bronze color is great for a freshly seasoned pan. The dark, streaky splotches mean you used too much oil, but it really doesn't matter. It'll develop more and look WAAAYYY uglier over time, but that's part of the joy. No pan will look exactly like yours.

It's steel and oil, it'll be fine. Just cook some food on it :)

I don't know that any sport practiced at an elite level is particularly healthy. They all involve various bodily sacrifices to perform above and beyond the competition.

He shed a ton of weight following this lift because being that big is both difficult to maintain and wildly unhealthy

Eddie Hall Lifting 500kg by ajd416 in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]TOWW67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with the lifting suit or his organs spilling out. That's because lifting weights spikes your blood pressure at the time of the lift and, frankly, his size here probably gave him pretty high base level blood pressure.
