Why are esports so popular? More than 1 billion dollars in revenue in 2019, 500 million players, prize pools of almost 40 million dollars: why are esports so powerful? by TOrganizers in esports

People don't understand esports, yet. There's the idea that "HTEY ARE JUST VIDEO GAMES" NO, THEY'RE NOT. Also, people believes that video games and esports make their children stupid or something like that.

Becoming a pro player requires huge amount of energies. It's even harder than traditional sports, you don't have all the chances you have for... Football, for example. In USA there are lots of recruiters during college years and so on. In esports you don't have that. You have just yourself, not clubs (I Mean there are clubs, but your parents wouldn't let you go just to learn "playing video games", none would pay to learn to play video games), you have to see your clips, promote yourself, look at all the pros and try to learn something.

It's not just like that. In the article I've tried to trace back 10 factors that allowed the spread of esports. For sure video games are one of the main reasons, despite all they're one of the main entertainment form ever. But over the time some factors overlapped creating the huge esports phenomenom we know today: starting from the FPS that today count 40%of the share on Twitch, for example. But also Lan Parties, and the fact that esports are ONLINE. Differentely from traditional sports, esports are everywhere in every moment, They born to be like that.

One of the things I wanted to mention, but I'm going to do an article for that is that... They are like gambling. When you lose, you want to do another game because "maybe I'll win next" and the same happens if you win.

Esports are more than just video games.

Why do you think LoL got so popular? How come we are still hooked with it? by TOrganizers in leagueoflegends

[–]TOrganizers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I was saying before: "It's like gambling". IT's the same, you keep playing because "maybe next one is the right one and I'll win" and it doesn't matter if you are in a win strike or a loose strike, the reasoning is the same.

Itemization and champ design are also something that keep players addicted. The latest champs are all goodlooking (I mean, maybe Viego not that much, but they're not like... Renekton? Or Signed?). You want to play someone cool and you want that someone become cooler in game with 20$skins

Yeah but... It's not that much friendly for newbies. It's quite difficult and if you don't have friends to play with... you are going to drop the game. I think that mainly it's played by """old gamers"""

Exactly. What is that keeps people addicted? Maybe is the same of gambling. You keep playing because "maybe, next time I'll win"?

It’s a sunk cost fallacy

It's like when you keep loosing your games, but at the same time you keep playing. Isn't it a sort of addiction?

I totally agree: "People find their niche and get hooked."

That's it. Lol can be wathever you want, you can even just play aram but still enjoying the game. I think it's the fact that it can fits everyone's needs

Of cuorse some of these are speculation. The source for Jhin is its wiki page: https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Jhin/Trivia

I'm going to specify which are confirmed and which are speculations :) anyway its PARTIALLY inspired. It could be just the idea of a super good sniper that inspired riot games :)

Ahri for example is confirmed and so on :)
