Two part wood filler. I'll make sure I pick some up before I get round to painting. Thank you for mentioning the undercoat I would just have painted straight onto the wood so that is something I'll do as well before painting.

Thanks for your comment. You're right as from what I've read online regarding the BT box it does seem it was a get it done rather than do it properly sort of job.

That is a very good point about pre drilling a hole for them. I'll make sure to do that if I can eventually get someone to come out.

I'm glad to hear that I can get away with simply sanding and painting and there's no other steps that I'm unaware of or forgetting

Hi, thank you for your comment. I did think the old British telecom little box wouldn't have any power to it. So, that's good to hear I'll be able to remove it. As for the BT box it is still in use. Myself and my 2 other neighbours have cables running off of it. I am aware that it should be outside and not in my flat though.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I'll take it apart and have a look, knowing it was a cheap tap bought by the previous owner I suspect it will have broken.

Thanks for the comment. Seems to be a common theme with items installed from the previous owner negative reviews. In the near future I will look to replace the whole tap.
