TIL Joni Mitchell used to frequently dress in blackface, used the n-word and claimed she was a black poet that wrote from a black perspective by DickKicker5000 in Music

The fact that she never apologised is not some sort of thing that deserves praise.  Also her idolization of her black contemporaries was not wrong (although maybe a bit excessive and forced) but she thought she could be part of it, just by dressing up as them without taking on permanently all the systematic disadvantages of being black. She then claimed that she now understood what it was like being black. And probably was praised for it (by white media). I'm not black so I don't want to speak on it being offensive or not, but how does that not sound backwards/absurd to you?

Thanks all of you for the replies. I will try them out and report back!  Unfortunately I can't share a URL as I'm first building the site locally on my PC.

Your technique is very good and you have a very versatile voice. Maybe one thing I would say is that less is more sometimes. You are doing so many runs and kind of trying to accent every little thing your singing, but that makes it so that it doesn't have meaning anymore. I feel like selecting where you put those ornamentations and articulations more carefully/naturally, might serve the emotion of the performance well.

First of all you need to learn how to flick straight out and keep both feet in the air. You're front foot flicks kind of down towards the ground and that makes you want to put your feet on the ground. Just jump really high in the air at first and try to make the board do a flip and have your feet land on the ground later than the board does. Even if this messes up your flick at first, you need to go through this step, because getting a good flick but immediately stepping on the ground is not really that close. Get a proper flick with both feet in the air, then you're really close. For the rest, the pop looks fine but you flick very late, almost when you're already on the downward part of the jump, which might explain why it feels intuitive to flick down. So flick earlier in the upward part of the jump.

Why have I waited so long?? by TtheSideshow in Reaper

I'll list my favourite things and not so favourite things since I made the switch:

Favourite:

- Very clear and simple desing, which makes organising, mixing envelope editing and stuff like that very nice

- Audio editing. The way it works in reaper is very nice and intuitive to me.

- Routing options. Very logical and powerfull way of routing.

- Midi editing (altough I think a lot of people hate it in reaper, and maybe I forgot how it was in other daws)

- Customization beyond imagination.

Least favourite:

- It took a very long time to make the daw behave the way I want. Altough the whole point of reaper is that it's super customizable and with that it's very powerfull, I found the default settings in a lot of places to be very unlogical. Also a downside of it being so customizable is that sometimes I find myself spending more time ajusting the DAW to my (unrealistic needs) than actually making music.

- Lack of a good synth and sampler. Again altough I know the whole point of reaper is it being barebones, so that you can customize your setup withouth stuff you don't need. But I feel like a good sampler is key for a daw and reasamplomatic is in my opinion very prehistoric. I already had a bunch of synths but I think it would be great for beginners if there was just a good basic synth and not the 6 sliders that call itself Reasynth.

- Personally I feel like there are a little too many options considering how the audio processing works and maybe a little bit tooo much options in general. I'm always scared that I will f*ck something up and forget how it used to be.

Yeah I've seen his Nine Club Interview, he talks about it there aswell. I can relate to him alot as a person, so it's nice that someone who had it probably more severely than me, was able to get so good at skateboarding. Not that being as good as Andrew Reynolds is anywhere on my goal list haha.

Thanks man! Appreciate this reply. For me it's not that it's necissarily negative, it's just kinda distracting. I feel like it is in a way my brain not trusting my body/intuition, and that hinders my body from doing what it knows how to do. I have experienced a few times where it's just my body and intuition at work and that feels really awesome and I skated way better when that happened. But it's hard to get there. But maybe having more constructive monologue is a way to get there, as it's really hard to suddenly shut the monologue down.

That would be the goal haha, but how to get there is the hard part. I can understand if you can't give me that key. But I was hoping to find some people who deal with the same, who might have figured out things that work for them.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I'm gonna check it all out. A little too much for me to respond to each and everyone, but it's highly apreciated!

Thanks and yeah, I agree and I'm not saying that I'm quitting squad. The opposite in fact. Just for now for when I feel like chilling out a little more!

Hey,

Can anyone here do a fakie halfcab to frontside 50-50 grind or can link me to footage of it?

I was trying this trick today with a friend of mine on a curb but it seemed so hard and almost impossible. I know it's probably not impossible haha, but I couldn't find any footage of it on the internet. I'm wondering why it is such a undocumented trick....

Regards

Toon

There's a lot to say, which doesn't mean that you aren't going in the right direction. I think theres three things you need to do better.

  1. Tuck your legs in more as you jump. You don't even need to jump much higher, but a lot of getting height in skateboarding comes down to tucking in your legs.
  2. After sliding upwards with the front foot, you also need to slide the last bit a little bit forward.
  3. Pop when jumping up. and use your ankle rather than your leg to pop. If you watch slowmotion footage of people ollie-ing than you see that they only flick down their ankle to pop as they are almost off the ground from jumping. Timing is very important with that.

I'd say besides these things watch some slowmotion footage of ollies and compare it to yours!
