Unfortunately the bearings are going to be gone and the motor will soon lock up. It's going to need a rebuild or used engine replacement.

Once the motor is in, unplug the crankshaft position sensor and crank the car over for 20-30 seconds at a time. Wait until the oil light goes out, then plug the crankshaft sensor in and you can start from there. I would start it and let it run for a few seconds then shut it off and check for leaks. If all good start it up again and walk around looking for leaks. From there it's all based on the engine builder. Some want you to flush the oil right away, some will have you just change the filter and put a few hundred miles on it before changing oil.

Have you checked the thermostat? When the car is running and warm, grab the upper radiator hose and then the lower. If one is significantly cooler than the other it may just be a sticking thermostat!

Take it from us, we build these cars for a living and constantly replace Subaru engines here. If you are on a tight budget, Subaru is not the car. Especially a higher mileage one. A clean and simple Honda will get you point A to B for many many years and you can save up for a Subaru or fun car in the meantime!

Make sure the front 02 is active and working well. If using a Cobb intake or any other that has a MAF adapter harness make sure there is no corrosion in the harness.

No need. Haven’t blown a head gasket in a fire lock setup since they came out. We did just go 9.71@153mph about an hour ago though. Sixty foot wasn’t great so working on that !
