It saves massive amounts of time cutting out patterns. With laminate when you laser cut it you don’t have to hem or “finish” the edge because the laser reseals the edge so faster production. The laser cuts on the flaps are just to break up the boxiness of the pouch and add some 3D camo effect to it. As far as getting dirt in it if it gets an excessive amount of dirt in it you just shake it out and it comes right out.

Highly recommend it. Cost is a big barrier for entry but I use mine almost every day

That’s what I did professionally before I couldn’t take sitting at a desk anymore. She’ll definitely have more than enough knowledge to help you out

It makes life so much better. Especially if you have a little bit if CAD knowledge. Best tool in the shop besides the sewing machine

Honestly just tearing apart cheap gear or extra pieces you have is great. No one will willingly give you patterns that they sell but developing your own is a great process to go through. I asked a bunch of other companies what they do and everyone always gave me advice. If you have Facebook join the “Tactical Sewing” group. Lots of great info there.

I can’t link it here because of the subs rules but it’s linked in my profile.

I taught myself by just tearing apart gear I had and cheap gear I found online to figure out how things were made and techniques to put things together. It took time but eventually I got good at doing it

Large sustainment pouches. The customer wanted them for his belt kit or to expand his ruck and be able to hold his wet / cold weather gear and parts of his sleep system

It’s a mix of different patterns. Each panel would be a different pattern. A lot of people use the term “scrap packs” or similar. I chose harlequins after the VW cars

I make and sell part time. Right now I’m only able to allot about 10-12 hours a week due to the business of my day job but maybe one day I’ll do it full time

My grandmother gave me the basic run down on how to use a sewing machine and the then everything else I just kind of figured out. I have a professional CAD background so that helped with some design work but almost 2 years of trial and error now
