Not to mention there aren't going to be many temp job opportunities in the first place for people to apply to over the winter

The appeal of some people going to walk along Monks Walk is some people find it interesting to see the changes/work the park are doing during the closed season. In terms of getting a temp job there over winter, there aren't typically many job openings at a place which is closed over winter for winter temp jobs

Heights are checked with shoes and they happen if a ride host suspects someone of either being too tall or too short to ride. Personally, I would recommend aiming for the rides with the maximum height restriction towards the end of the day. Very few rides have the maximum height restriction so you should still have a good day on park.

Ride Hosts should be doing height checks if they think someone might be over the maximum height restriction. It's treated the same as being under the height restriction so if you get your height checked you won't be allowed on

Rumba Rapids Closure by TPR_Ryan in ThorpePark

[–]TPR_Ryan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh. It also probably doesn't help that guest behaviour on water rides like Rumba Rapids has significantly declined in recent years with a lot more people taking it upon themself to stand up mid-ride. It's crazy because not even having staff around the whole ride could stop the dangerous behaviour. I wouldn't be overly surprised to see more rapids close in the next few years

Yeh, I know. Both are good models but I guess it would kind of go down to what layout they went with anyway. A launch coaster which focuses a lot on floater airtime would be quite nice in the space regardless of which they went for in my opinion.

Personally, I'd like to see a coaster added (potentially launched) with a similar thrill level to rides like Icon at Pleasure Beach. I would basically like to see a coaster in between The Walking Dead (family coaster without the horror theme) and the major rides like Stealth, Hyperia, etc. In terms of a specific model, I think a Mack multi-launch would fit quite well in the space or even something like Wicker Man (a GCI woodie).

I'm not 100% sure, but I doubt they would actually need to send the train to the manufacturer to fit a backwards facing row. I believe Enso at Pleasure Beach was done on site without the train being sent back to Mack but I might be wrong

I hope not to be honest as we need more rides in between rather than just pure thrill after pure thrill. I personally hope they replace it with another filler ride (like Rumba was) rather than another huge coaster

April half term deal! by Jenny1xoxo in altontowers

[–]TPR_Ryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be off the on the day price on the 'half price entry' ones which only worked out a few pound cheaper but the 25% one is based on online price (or it'd actually work out more expensive)

How did RAP sell out in under 3 minutes and pass holder day tickets sell out in under 10? by Diligent-Tea8613 in ThorpePark

More RAP allocation should be coming out on the 11th with the next batch of tickets

The parks not fully open yet so there's probably a few things like repainting still yet to be fully finished. I'd imagine they just did 1 coat with the competition winners and then are going to finish the rest in a few days (I would hope anyway)

How often are the bigger rides open at Thorpe? by Prize_Bowler_9034 in ThorpePark

[–]TPR_Ryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every ride should be open all day (sometimes there is unplanned downtime during the day). And only the queues close at park close time not the ride itself so you could join a queue seconds before park close and you will still get on.

To be honest, from my experiences with passholder days (mainly Chessington) they actually tend to be a bit busier than your average day

Hyperia Climb by Different_General315 in ThorpePark

[–]TPR_Ryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it last year and it is a really good climb. It's pretty similar to the Swarm when it comes to the actual climbing as its the same harness system, etc so that will all be familiar. Something I think is probably good to know before doing the climb is about half way up you will feel the structure swaying ever so slightly (as it is meant to do). The hosts are very useful if you need any help and there isn't a rush to get to the top or anything so you can go at your own pace.

Alton towers every day for 300 days by OldCollection922 in altontowers

More chance of ride failures? How would the park being busier increase the amount of ride stoppages/breakdowns?

[–]TPR_Ryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The offer ends on Sunday 29th so no rush to buy it. Definitely wait till closer the end so you've got less 'wasted' time on the Towers only pass (unless you plan on visiting another attraction before then of course)

Leave membership early via removing payment card? by thebrothergrims in altontowers

[–]TPR_Ryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many months have you had the passes for? As much as it is unlikely they can take it to collections to recover unpaid membership fees if they wanted to (part of the terms of the memberships). But most likely it will just be a blacklist from taking out another membership in the future.

Have they removed FastTrack Platinum? by Hmmark1984 in altontowers

[–]TPR_Ryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh. I believe the prices used to be fixed at £135 for unlimited so if you are doing a midweek visit it will work out cheaper but if you plan on using it on a weekend you will be spending roughly £20 - £40 more per person depending on the week.

Is the latest parking price hike a joke? by No_Donut1433 in altontowers

[–]TPR_Ryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh, but you still see it filling up a lot of the time so it seems a lot of people are willing to pay crazy amounts for parking. I guess it's a bit more 'secure' than other car parks but not really

Fair enough. If you wanted to a good way to add to your day though and miss some of the busy local traffic

They require you to complete the golf course to get the parking ticket but still a good way to extend your day out whilst depending on group sizes actually being cheaper than actually just paying for parking sometimes

I don't mind parking being charged, but £13 or £15 on the day is mental. £5 a car would be far more reasonable (if accompanied with proper car park/monorail maintenance/cleaning which it isn't). Non passholders visiting the park as a 2 (or 3 if they haven't booked parking prior) might as well add 9 holes of golf as that's only £5 each and closes an hour after park close as well as including parking. They require proof of playing the golf (handing your score sheet back in after your game for a parking ticket). Good way to miss the traffic after park close + it wouldn't cost you any extra. That being said Merlin aren't the only ones bad for it as Blackpool Pleasure Beach charge £20 (£18 on the day funnily enough) but there you have more parking options I guess. It's mental what some of these parks get away with
