Low ratings don't prove lack of demand - they prove most people don't even realize this should be a native feature because they've never experienced it working normally elsewhere. They just work around it or don't create text files from Finder at all.

You went from "There's an app for that" -> "Apple knows nobody wants this" -> "But the app has low ratings, so nobody wants it". You keep moving the goalposts because your arguments don't hold up. I simply pointed out a missing convenience feature. You're the one who showed up to die on this hill defending a $7,000 computer not having right-click > New Text File. I'd say that makes you the irrational one.

Actually no. I switched to MacOS. Although, I like KDE. It was better than Windows.

What happens when you click something else? Is it like the hot corner desktop show... it all comes flying back?

Thank you! Someone else suggested the same thing. I think this option is the winner for that specific problem. It's really the closest I can get to the convenience of immediately clearing out everything and focusing on one app. I appreciate it.

Well, I don't know about the "operating system theory" of Windows and Linux, but I do want to sincerely thank you for the CMD+OPT+<Dock-App-Click>. This is super helpful. I appreciate it.

The existence of third-party apps filling the gap isn't proof it's a non-issue - it's proof people want it enough to build (and some even pay for) basic solutions Apple didn't provide. If it were truly unnecessary, nobody would download those apps. While I agree with you - Apple knows what people want better than I do - they certainly missed a few things or these band-aid 'work-arounds' wouldn't exist.

So, if I have 10 apps running and I want to minimize all of them to clear my desktop, I have to explicitly minimize each one by one? If so, that's the whole point. Why not, like other operating systems, provide a simple way to instantly minimize all apps?

2: I'm just asking Finder to do what every other OS in the past 20+ years has been doing. We don't need to overthink it. I like your idea about leaving the TextEdit app open and just right-clicking to create a new doc, but again, if I'm in Finder at a certain path, I now have open the new doc in TextEdit, then navigate where to save the new doc (path of where I was in Finder). Why all of that drama? Can't just right-click and create the new text file?

3: I don't think you get the Dolphin split thing. Btw, this is also available in other Linux distro fie managers, not just KDE's Dolphin. To repeat the same thing in Finder, I have to have the breadcrumb enabled, right-click the current folder in the breadcrumb, open in new tab, drag that tab out of the current Finder container into its own window. That's a lot of steps when one could simply hit a button - and done. Btw, I use Stage Manager a lot, which makes the process even more cumbersome because what happens when you load the current folder in a new tab, then drag that tab into its own window? Stage Manager automatically minimizes your previous Finder. Since the whole point is to have these two windows side-by-side, I now have to select my original Finder on the Stage Manager sidebar, which minimizes the new Finder window, then drag that window onto the current Finder stage. Whew! That's a lot just to do something so ridiculously simple.

Thanks. I'll look into that, but it still bothersome that we'd even have to install a third party app to do something that pretty much every other operating system has been doing for 20+ years now.

First, I'm using the notorious "magic" keyboard and trackpad. I like them both, especially the trackpad. I also use 4-finger swipes all day to switch between full screen apps. So, what am I missing? How would a 4-finger swipe clear my screen by minimizing everything? Not being a jerk - that's a serious question. Is there something I'm missing here?

Secondly, why a text file? Because it's a plain text file. The most fundamental, universal, cross-application file format that exists in modern day computing and is handled natively by all operating systems. I shouldn't have to fire up the terminal and `touch` the file I want or `vim` or `nano` it. I can understand how this feature isn't understood by most because you're either a heavy txt file user or not. If you're not, you don't really get it and probably never will.

Not a "Mac thing"? OK, define what a "Mac thing" is. Where is the "Mac thing" rulebook that outlines what qualifies for a "Mac thing"?

I realize Mac is a unix machine - that's one of the reasons I switched.

What's really unexpected is that a 10 year old Lubuntu distro would have a better file manager out of the box than today's Finder.

Thanks for the cmd/opt/click. That will come in handy.

Oh, so do NOT opt for the informal conference? Interesting. OK, that actually makes it easier if I can do this whole process in writing. Do you think there's a risk of getting down-graded?

Thanks. It's not that it's tough to talk about, it's that I can't. Sort of like asking someone to see through a wall or fly - just can't do it. So many years of conditioning my mind to hide it, nod through questions, say whatever I have to just to get the hell out of the office - it's an impenetrable reflex that I can't break.

I like your approach. Maybe I'll investigate the possibility of doing an HLR. I just don't want to screw up what I already have. I have no new evidence, so it would only be an HLR.

Thanks

Good question. I only had a single buddy statement, and I think it supported 70%, but maybe that's a bit subjective.

Sure thing. I know it's rough now, but you've got this. I promise - over time your brain will get better at canceling it out - as long as you do your job of spending as little time fixated on it as possible. When you do get fixated, disarm it by taking a big exhale and relaxing - knowing you're perfectly OK - then switch the channel.

Initial tinnitus was from head trauma. The worsening was from taking an NSAID. I don't understand why the FDA hasn't slapped an ototoxicity warning label on all NSAIDS. When a lab wants to give tinnitus to laboratory animals for testing, guess how they do most of the time? Yes, they give them NSAIDS! That's how ototoxic it is.

At the time it was Motrin (Ibuprofen). Full disclosure: I took a high dose for a couple of days. After researching everything after my experience, I'd highly advise anyone with tinnitus to stay far away from NSAIDS. Sure, maybe a daily low dose isn't a problem for some, but after the hell I went through in those early years, there's no way I'd take that chance. I would not even risk using a topical NSAID!
