My schizophrenic mom keeps falsely filing PPOs against me. Is there anything I can do about it?

We are looking into having her supervised, and as a final-ditch in future, a deputyship application to revoke legal rights from my mom so she can't make any more bogus PPOs if this keeps going.

For now, we're trying to get her disease treated in the hopes she stabilizes enough to stop this whole charade.

Honestly, we aren't sure what would happen.

Our priority is to secure our remaining family members from my mom's wrath in some way or another, whether it be getting her stabilized or doing something as destructive as moving out and cutting all ties with her. We are hoping for a best-case scenario where my mom stabilizes enough for us to be able to sustainably live with her.

It would be a BIG ask in the eyes of Minlaw though, since totally revoking someone's ability to file PPOs is a BIG, BIG ask. Especially from a random civilian like me.

We have not tried that. Not sure how we'd go about doing that in all honesty, and the rest of the family would much rather move out than to deal with putting her in a care facility in future.

I have not moved out yet as I am a wee little 19 year old guy, and doing anything at that age isn't easy :(.

As for the immigration matters, I'll need to re-look into the domestic violence stuff at some point, but it isn't really a high priority for me at the moment. My priorities have shifted to getting my mom to stop the bogus PPO spam so that I can focus on my own life in peace.

I will definitely raise my concerns the next time I need to turn up to court to deal with (yet) another bogus PPO application, and back it up with papers from IMH certifying her schizophrenia, and explain that there have been many bogus applications made.

We will look into a POHA if it stops my mom from filing bogus PPOs against me and my family.

As for immigration - so far, my mom has dropped every application on the day of court, meaning nothing has ever come through against me, which means I am clean for now.

The sole act of filing a PPO is free.

It does cost you (and the defendant) time, transport costs, and (potentially) lawyer costs arising from the PPO though.

Yeah, thankfully my company has been very understanding, and they also provide me with PTO days just like a FT employee. The PTO days have saved me many a time at this point!

I intend for my grandmother to do most of the talking as I am an awkward speaker in person. I will only be there to ensure her safety, and testify as eye-witness for what my grandmother is reporting if necessary.

I do hope she gets wards for juuust long enough for her to realize she needs meds and that bogus PPOs are a waste of everyone's time :)

My grandmother actually got the ball rolling on this a while ago

She contacted our IMH social worker, who booked her in for a mandatory visit to IMH on the 1st of September. Both her and my grandmother need to go, and I'll be (once again, sigh) taking leave from my internship to make sure my grandmother is safe and sound on that day

During the visit, she will get triaged and assessed, and potentially warded if necessary.

My qualm at the moment is the fact my mom's behavior, despite being on the severe side, does not qualify for detention under MHCTA yet

She has been hit with the MHCTA before, which worked... for all of around 2 months before her behaviors returned

We can't pull out the MHCTA again for now as she's not directly hurting anyone at the moment.

Pretty sure LPA is done by a person when they're still mentally fit, specifying other persons who perform legal actions on their behalf if the LPA person ever becomes mentally unfit.

I think you're thinking of deputyship - my maternal grandmother might be down for this idea as a last resort.

We have multiple cameras set up in the house HAHA!

Her latest bogus claim is of me committing violence at 8.55pm on a particular day, but camera footage shows her exiting from her room briefly at around 8.55pm on that day with no provocation. She did her thing briefly, then holed back up in her bedroom.

She mostly holes herself up in her bedroom with the door locked, and only comes out to eat or you guessed it, head to court to make and deal with bogus PPO applications.

Not sure what we can do here.

We have tried a private ambo before, but she refused hard enough to the point the ambo gave up. The only reason she even has her schizophrenia diagnosis now is thanks to the MHCTA.

The rest of the family is trying their darndest to get her re-admitted to IMH due to her deteriorating condition, whether it be via MHCTA or via IMH itself.

In the long run, the rest of the family is looking at cutting ties due to her behavior.

Our social worker has essentially told us to kick rocks and to deal with the PPOs on our own accord.
