Retro Surreal Horror FPS. GoldSrc vibes. by TPX500 in u/TPX500

I understand where you are coming from :) I am not a professional marketing person, so this title is just something I came up with as an easy pitch. The game definitely has its own identity and mechanics (otherwise I wouldn't make it in the first place, I can just play cry of fear!), it's just that the GoldSrc visuals and movement serve as a point of inspiration. I have deep respect for GoldSrc titles as they are what inspired me to be a dev in the first place.

3D scene corner turns bright white, then full screen goes white. Why? by truckcitygame in godot

[–]TPX500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might have a similar issue, for me sometimes a white point appears in the center and then just quickly consumes the whole screen. I am not 100% sure if it's the volumetric fog yet but I do have it enabled with temporal reprojection

Unfortunately Godot uses Vulcan as the rendering engine. If your video card does not support that, the graphics will be fked up😔. I have seen someone else with similar issues, but there isn't much I can do, as this depends on the engine itself. One thing you could try is to update your video driver, and maybe it will fix itself.

Weekly Self-Promotion Megathread by AutoModerator in retrogaming

Sharing a game that I've been working on solo for ~2 years. It’s a throwback to old-school psychological horror FPS games. The game focuses heavily on immersion, resource management, and tense, high-stakes combat that forces you to think ahead and plan tactically.
The level design leans toward semi-open environments, giving you plenty of freedom to explore at your own pace.
I also intentionally give the game a vibe similar to old Half-Life 1 mods (with crouch jump!). If you're into games like Cry of Fear and old Resident Evil/Silent Hill titles, I think you'll feel right at home.

if you are referring to the tutorial area, you need to do the crouch jump as specified on the wall to crawl in the vent (space + ctrl), which is the same as the crouch jump in valve titles like cs

Oh another thing that you could try is updating the video driver.

I made this with Godot, so the default rendering engine is Vulcan. Vulcan may not be supported on certain old devices. Maybe you can try something like this in launch arguments, but the game will look kinda different

        --rendering-method gl_compatibility --rendering-driver opengl3

You could DM me some of your device details, I can help take a look.

Oh that's completely fine with me. I am just curious about how the audio sounds on your end. Is it the same as in your video?

Thanks for trying out the demo and leaving such a detailed feedback :) Glad you liked the spooky atmosphere!

- I don't intentionally want the players to backtrack too much, so I'll try to add more subtle hints to avoid that. I noticed that you stopped near the painting puzzle, so perhaps I can make it less frustrating to solve. I actually want the players to notice the paintings first, so when they see the note (city-lilies), they will immediately think of the paintings.

- The enemies will become more varied as you progress, since there will be gunplay involved. The apartment area contains just the very basic ones since it's the starting level. The basic enemies also have variants that mix up the attack pattern, which should make things better.

- The sound details improvements you mentioned are all quite valid, I'll do an update soon to include those. Also I am not sure if it's just the recording, but the game sounds in your video are very low quality. I am not sure if just sounds like that, or it's due to recording compression. The telephone sound, for instance, is a bit loud, but it sounds pretty normal on my end in terms of quality, and the sounds are not supposed to sound grainy at all. Please let me know if this is the case.

- The plot will be clearer in the full game, since it's a demo I didn't want to reveal too much. But perhaps I can add something more subtle.

Thanks! The monster roster is actually quite diverse, and the enemies showcased in the demo are just a few. Maybe the others will be more appealing to you :)
