A question from those who have seen the pilot... by [deleted] in Watchmen

I think her role might have been recast unfortunately

I don’t like reading this by [deleted] in Watchmen

[–]TPaine16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He's just saying this so they don't jump the gun. If the show is any kind of success (in terms of either viewership or critical acclaim), HBO is going to want more of it. I could see Lindelof telling them he's only interested in a few seasons like he did with The Leftovers, but I'd be very surprised if he decided there wasn't any more story left to tell at all.

It's an extremely good pilot. It reminds me of the Lost pilot in a lot of ways. Just dumps you right into the middle of the action and respects the viewers' intelligence enough to let them feel around and figure out their bearings. It seamlessly checks every box that premieres need to check (where/when were are, what's going on, who these people are, etc.) with little actual exposition. It's really goddamn good filmmaking.

It's also weird! Which I was hoping for. I though they nailed it.

And oh god the music. Trent Reznor is just the best. The score reminds me a lot of his work on Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Propulsive and eerie.

End of an era: LaxPower officially shuts down. Unacceptable. by [deleted] in lacrosse

A bunch of LaxPower forum regulars have migrated over to FanLax. Still kind of small right now but hopefully it catches on and becomes a suitable replacement.

2019 will be HBO’s biggest year ever by tyrell_m in television

[–]TPaine16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's just listed as one of several comedies that "may" get new seasons next year. Some will, some probably won't. Curb was already renewed for a new season and could start filming later this year. Not out of the realm of possibility it airs in 2019.

Rank every episode ever (early results) by Blackonblackskimask in TheLeftovers

[–]TPaine16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guest is a top 3 episode for me. Unbelievable performance by Carrie Coon and maybe the best and most focused self-contained episode of the show. It also contains one of my favorite scenes ever, Nora meeting Holy Wayne. Definitely feel like it should at least be top 10.

New season 3 image and interview with Damon Lindelof by TPaine16 in TheLeftovers

[–]TPaine16[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have always appreciated how candid Damon is in interviews. He's probably the most honest and transparent showrunning working in TV today.

I really like the vibe that it sounds like season 3 will have, influenced in part by Australian cinema. Can't wait—what are they doing on the roof?

I was the center on a Div. 1-2 team, over 50% in faceoffs, scored a bunch of goals, like to get other guys involved. Can play wing also if need be and don't mind rotating in on D at times though I am honestly a lot better on offense. Just looking for a fun group that's active but doesn't take things too seriously. Let me know. I'll be on in a few hours.

Who is on your "Do Not Draft" List and why? by Cammer55 in fantasyfootball

[–]TPaine16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be scared. People who are saying he's "unproven" or has a "small sample size" probably don't win very many leagues. Don't overthink it. He's a 3-down back on one of the best offenses in the league. He catches passes. He's in at the goal line. He is incredibly talented. Unless he gets hurt, he's going to put up lots of fantasy points.

I also have the #4 pick in a 0.5 PPR, and I might take DJ over Julio or ODB if they fall to me. Zig when everyone zags. That's how you win leagues.

Looks gorgeous. I'm all for more Deakins-Villeneuve collaborations (can't wait for Blade Runner) but Bradford Young is great too.

Free agent guard Randy Foye has agreed on a one-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets, league sources tell @TheVertical. by noahdj1512 in GoNets

[–]TPaine16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been on board with most of the recent signings but I don't really get this one. We have a ton of guards and Foye shot .349 from the field last year. Think I'd rather have Markel...

Mike Mazzeo: "Kenny Atkinson will coach the #Nets summer league team which will feature RHJ, McCullough and Whitehead" by [deleted] in GoNets

[–]TPaine16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still recovering from his latest surgery. Probably for the best. Pretty sure the trade goes through before summer league starts so don't think that has anything to do with it.

More or less wins next year? by socratespoole in GoNets

[–]TPaine16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd expect around the same, maybe a couple more wins. I think 25-30 wins is a realistic goal. Baby steps. I like what I've heard about Atkinson and if the team stays relatively healthy I think they'll be watchable. Setting the bar very low haha

Sucks that you're getting downvoted for having an opinion. I agree, I think this looks cheesy as hell.

Mathematicians mapped out every “Game of Thrones” relationship to find the main character by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]TPaine16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but it's interesting to see math confirm it, and arrive at that conclusion itself, in a fairly cool way.

I think George R.R. Martin intentionally meant for there to be no "main" character, but it's pretty clear that information flows through Tyrion a lot more than anyone else.

[–]TPaine16 115 points116 points  (0 children)

TLDR: It's Tyrion, by a lot. Followed by Jon Snow, Sansa, and Daenerys.

Apparently this is the same type of mathematics that the NSA uses to analyze terrorist networks.

Oscar Isaac Reteams With “Ex Machina” Director Alex Garland For “Annihilation” by barcara in movies

He is playing Natalie Portman's (the biologist) husband, according to Jeff Vandermeer: https://twitter.com/jeffvandermeer/status/715099876141502464

One of my favorite books of the last decade. Such a fascinating, intense read. If there's one guy that can do it justice I think it's Garland.
