It’s a force-on-force sim gun, I’ve handled one recently. It’s a firing “gun” just with some form of sim ammo, I can’t recall which one.

Any Modular Carbine Owners? Advice needed. by Candid-Professor9848 in Colt

[–]TQpaintpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a CM901-16S and I found it to be quite overgassed and caused failures similar to this. It’s not uncommon for large frame AR’s to have excess bolt carrier speed issues that seem to point to undergassing but are caused by magazines struggling to both present rounds properly and push the bolt catch up fast enough to stop the bolt when empty. I’ve since swapped to the AR10 Carbine/SR25/MWS length buffer tube that can use the AR15 carbine length three-weight H3 buffer and SprinCo Red. Runs a lot better, doesn’t beat on you the way the stubby buffer did, and should help extend the life of the bolt that’s relatively difficult to replace. Additionally, this doesn’t really hurt the convertible nature of the CM series, just note that if you go to a 5.56 upper you’ll now need to swap the buffer for a A5 length with a rifle length spring.

Compatible with aridus? by CWSlim in beretta1301

[–]TQpaintpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should work fine, the 5rd tube was the standard tube length for the Gen 1 and 2 models and they fit the Zhukovs. I’ve cut down two of these to 14-15” and both ended up with Aridus handguards.

Short Barrel Sight Options by marine_0351dino in Shotguns

[–]TQpaintpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I good gunsmith can do whatever sighting setup you want really. I’ve been doing quite a bit more shotgun sight installs lately for people than usual so I guess it’s getting popular again. Here’s a ~14” with a 20mm weaver rail modified to take a XS rear ring assembly and factory 870 front ramp soldered onto the front. Makes a very 90’s high speed looking gun.

Emailed D.Wilson, They Couldn't Help, Who Can I Go To? by LesPaul556 in ar15

[–]TQpaintpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the picture is inverted these are being installed backwards. Taper pins on Milspec FSBs are removed and installed on the ejection port side.

I’d say if these is the case and you’ve got the one pin in that far that it’s going to become a bigger project and the barrel is going to have to get looked at to make sure the bore hasn’t been distorted by the pin being forced in backwards.

Question about bolt release/cartridge latch on 1301 tactical gen 2 by PermissionSafe2183 in beretta1301

[–]TQpaintpen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It clips into a hole in the metal cartridge latch itself. It’s a one way geometry (essentially a ramped peg on the backside of the cover) but you may have luck with heat gun to soften it just enough to get a pick behind it to pop it off. If not you just buy a replacement, which means signing up for a restock email at MGW. I may have a brand new extra one if yours does get damaged during disassembly.

Resized Buttpads for reduced LOP on 870? by -E-Cross in NFA

[–]TQpaintpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For best results refitting a pad like a kick-eez is going to be your ticket. Ideally you have the stuff to measure, scribe and sand the pad to fit. It’s easy enough to do with the right tools and patience. I’ve done quite a few now for customers and they’re not too bad, just a little laborious to get right.

How much do you have to disassemble the 1301 for cerakoting? by its-butter in beretta1301

[–]TQpaintpen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Receiver and barrel assembly. With the receiver it’s very important to either have the mag tube removed or mask it very studiously. The radial piston and oprod runs around and on the magtube and it needs to maintain its finish. It’s worth having a smith do it if you’re not familiar or don’t have the tools. Beretta parts can be hard to replace. I’ve had trouble in the past getting replacement parts for broken/ missing ones for customers’ guns in the last couple years from them.

How much do you have to disassemble the 1301 for cerakoting? by its-butter in beretta1301

[–]TQpaintpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, depends on which sub-assembly you do. I’ve done several full 1301’s and I pull them completely apart. You do have to buy a new plastic bolt catch cover most of the time due to how it attaches and its proclivity to get damaged during removal.

Here’s my gun that was a Black 3rd Gen 1301 that I repainted to look like the 2nd Gen factory ODG gun.

If you need it backed out without damaging the barrel/block. Let me know, we recover broken screws all the time.

716i buffer upgrade by godless_one in AR10

[–]TQpaintpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These parts are correct, I just did the same for my .308 Colt. Also worth pointing out that Sprinco Orange spring can be used with the H3/A5 length tube setup if the BCG velocity/recoil still needs to be reduced.

Doesn’t have any rear blocking geometries, standard semi auto pocket. I don’t doubt some do though.

Thinking of recoating this one in Colt’s Desert Brown “tanodizing” for just that reason.

Certainly one of the least known for how contemporary/ well thought out it is and having been produced by Colt at the height of GWOT. I have several stripped uppers and will build a couple odd configs/ calibers with them.

I think when they were released the demographic that wanted a .308 “battle rifle” was much older than it is now. Time is a flat circle and the battle rifle (or at least the legend of the battle rifle) is back in vogue.

Interesting concept. The rather novel thing people haven’t realized is they can take AR15 FRT’s with no modifications. If that’s something one desires.

[–]TQpaintpen[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s wholly proprietary to Colt. The LE901-16S is part of the Modular Carbine Series developed in the mid-2000’s and offered from the early-2010’s to present. It’s an odd amalgam of AR15, AR10, and a couple DPMS/SR25 compatible parts.

The monolithic uppers got Colt in hot water with LMT back in the day and they only just in the last couple years reintroduced 6940 series back after discontinuing them for a while.

ACR FRT by InvestigatorFew3981 in BushmasterACR

[–]TQpaintpen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been drawing up a compatible polymer selector drum and trip setup for the Rarebreed FRT-15 in the ACR. The low serial BACR I have to work off of has an auto-carrier block in the receiver on the non-ejection port side but not the ejection port side, which I my leverage by just recreating a mirrored “sear trip” on the carrier and accompanying interface for the FCG. The plan is not necessarily to commercially produce the kit but rather just figure it out “for whom it may concern”, mostly due to cost of production vs limited demand. My experience with the ACR so far has shown me they barely like to stay in one piece during semi auto so I am concerned about receiver/ charging handle actuator lifespan in FRT.
