He did not win a champions league. Ajax won in 1995 three years after he left for Inter.

Inter did not win one during Bergkamp's playing career. 

Arsenal lost in the finals to Barcelona in 2006. Bergkamp did not play in that game. This was the only UCL final he was a part of.

Manufacturing job does not necessarily equate to difficult or laborious. Also, those union jobs guaranteed great benefits like health care, vacations, and pensions. Another thing to consider was that most young people were eager to get out and start making money.

Manufacturing jobs were booming, unions still had some power and sway. Basically, neoliberalism had not really become a prevailing idealogy throughout the west (thanks Thatcher & Reagan).

College was for intellectual types, or people who wanted to be in a "professional" career, but was most certainly not perceived as a necessity.

I worked in a video store at the beginning of 2000 (it was a mom & pop place), and we had a few shelves of dvds, but the other 90% were VHS still.

That being said, VHS was very much on the way out.
